My Gt3 has started to creak after traveling a few miles. you only really hear it at slow speeds. It doesn't make any noise when you initially drive it from cold. Took it to an OPC (it is under warranty) and they said it is normal. They checked top mounts etc and said everything ok. The car has had an easy life, very little track work and only 24k miles. it has only just started the creaking. Is this normal?

Would any of the listed be covered by the warranty?

....or the OP could be persistent with the OPC to get it un-fcensoredked under the warranty rather than flog a known to be defective car to an unsuspecting buyer?

I also wouldn't sell a car with a known fault. If you buy a gt3 you need to have it checked first. Not by a opc evidently

He could but then Rroro on here had an issue, kept taking it back to an OPC to fix, couldnt find it, changed many things (at his cost i believe), still fked, took it to Centre Gravity who unfked it immediately

Some people on here are just so uppity

It's almost certainly the bushes within the Bilstein dampers, which are known to wear. I was alerted to this in another thread that you should be able to find by searching for 'creak'. Getting this attended to fixed teh creak on my 997.1 GT3 immediately and - so far - permanently.

Chris F at Centre Gravity is a known expert and can arrange for your front dampers to be reworked by Bilstein for around £100 each, if I remember correctly;I think that improved bushes are fitted. I suggest strongly that you get this investigated before spending time and money on other solutions (particularly replacing top mounts, which seems to be the favourite - but ultimately ineffective - solution suggested by OPCs).

Suffice to say the job was done under warranty, but neither dealership exactly covered themselves in glory...
The above was sufficient to make me realise that dealing with corporate businesses rather than enthusiasts wasn't an ideal Porsche ownership proposition for me .....

This is almost certainly the problem. I have just changed the front dampers on my 997 GT2 and hey presto the problem has gone. I spoke to Chris at Centre Gravity and this is a well documented problem. For me problem started at 22k miles and had exactly the same description as OP. Since the change no problems. Will get removed parts refurbished so have spare for next time it happens.

Just to add something to this thread.

I had a creak from my front suspension, but it was there from cold.

My issue was lower Wishbone/LCA/Lower Control Arm and replacing them has fixed the issue.

So it seems, if it's there at cold, it's probably the arms.

If it only starts to creak after the car has "warmed through" (dampers heat up considerably when in use), it is more likely to be damper bushes.

Does that seem a fair assessment/assumption?
