My tyres get switched on my Turbo today.

The ones you need are Sottozero 2's with 295 on the rear.

Ebay had a couple of used sets available with wheels (centrelock) for about £2k-£2.5k.

Indy will be around £1050inc for the tyres only (excluding fitting). OPC will be around £1300inc fitting.

Centrelock wheel and tyres package is £2800 excluding vat from OPC but tyre changes are complimentary (saving about £130 per change).
Hi Carl,

Be interested in how you find them. Is that on 19s?

The car has been completely brilliant in the heavy wet weather we've had this week. One of the reasons for getting the TT was it's fabled all-weather ability, and have to say it's lived up to that so far! Night and day level of confidence compared to recent RWD cars. It's my daily driver so looking forward to a safe and mobile winter this year.

I switched the X5 over to winters at the weekend and that seems great (and a lot more comfortable dropping from 20s to 18s).

Found a few vids while I was researching winters, which show how they work for anyone who's interested.

So winter tyres cover snow and make sense, we may or may not get any this year so not sure if they are worth getting ion the off chance we get a little for a few days?

Do winter tyres work for wet conditions? That is something we have much more of and for me would be more relevant and worth considering.

That's a pretty signfiicant improvement in wet braking and handling in the video - a few car lengths! Apparently much better at avoiding aquaplaning as well, due to water dispersal properties.

Lol wink

Yes it 'simulates' ice but it actually IS water. I think it's a pretty good indication of how the different tyres compare in the wet.

Yes, on 19inch centrelocks.

I will drop my opinion on them in the next couple of weeks.

I have had too many wobbly moments over the last few days, would make me feel much better if I got some winter tyres so am going to go for either:

Michelin Pilot Alpin
Continental WinterContact
Pirelli W270 SottoZero

I love my wheels so will go for tyre swap rather than new wheels.

Anyone got any view on the cheapest place to buy them?

Cheers!

Oponeo or Tyreleader. Mytyres messed me around on my last order with them although were fine the time before. Just ordered some Pilot Alpin for my Golf R and used Vredestein Wintrac previously on a Jaguar XF and BMW 640d with no complaints whatsoever.

Thanks guys.

Mytyres are more expensive by quite a long way the other 2 are fairly similar and actually quite reasonable. I will let you all know what they are like when I get them sorted.

Cheers!

Does anyone know if any of the tyres I listed are N rated and if I actually need N rated tyres? Seems to be conflicting advice on the web!

Unless you have a Porsche warranty which requires you fit them, then don't bother.

I do so I have ordered some Michelin Alpine N rated tyres from oponeo for £1070 and will get them fitted by my local place for £18 per tyre. Pretty happy with that!

I have run winter tyres and rims on both my 997.1 and 997.2 Turbo. I used a set of 'copy' turbo rims and use Nokian Winter tyres in the correct N rating. As others have said with winter tyres you do not use the same size as the summer. The handbook and the tyre pressure sticker tells you the correct sizes. I find them brilliant on snow and with 4 wheel drive even in deep snow have never needed chains. I go on a couple of ski trips a year so winter tyres are a must.
When you get a set of wheels and tyres do not forget you will need TPMS sensors and by the way the 997.1 sensor and the 997.2 sensor are different!
When you put them on the car you will need to reset the TPMS to winter tyres on the menu and it will pick up the sensors and reset the system to the new winter tyre sizes.
I have never been given grief about the winter tyres on the car and even had it serviced and warranty work carried out by my local OPC with them on the car without issues.

I have always bought my winters from eBay.de; they tend to be much more reasonable in price.

Last time I bought, I got wheels and tyres for the same price as just tyres in the UK......
