My budget creep on this purchase was worse than ever. I started with an M3 convertible worth £12k and wanted to spend double this on its replacement. A few man math sessions later and my budget is doubled! I had to sell off the family silver to make it all work but the Turbo 'itch' was too strong.
I pushed myself to afford this one so if the prices are truly rising then the new year would have seen me in an N/A car and an opportunity probably missed forever.
I have never really thought of any car as a keeper but this is as close as it gets for me :-)

I have yet to press the sport button as when I collected the car the roads were wet and greasy. I have not had the chance to drive it since but would appreciate some comments on why the Sport Chrono option is a 'must have'? Ok, so you boot it for ten secs then SC just switches itself off? I guess I need to play with it but I would rather know what to expect so I can concentrate on the rush. I don't relish getting my weekend toy out in crappy weather so it may be a while before it gets to stretch its legs .Steve Devaney said:

Yep, I think it just switches off. However, if you keep your 'toe in' for 10 seconds up through the gears you are a braver man than me!As for going out in poor weather... I was the same, then realised how much the car is costing me just sat there with road tax and insurance and thought what a waste of money (and my wife calling me a pussy for not taking it out in the rain!). The couple of hours or so washing it are more than worth it, and the turbos are so good in the wet. I took me, my wife and 2 children to the Dick Lovett 'cylinder club' on Sunday and had a brilliant morning, and it reminded me of why I bought the car. Getting the family out in it and having some fun!
Incidentally, did anyone else go to the cylinder club? I have never seen such a collection of cars like it! Surprised there are no threads about it. I will upload my pics tomorrow.

1 once did 57 miles Between MOT's in my 964 and that really was a very poor show. I am no fan of taking the toy out of the garage when the sun is not out, just to get it dirty, but I have made a concious effort to hit at least 500 miles a year now.
I made a mistake buying an M3 earlier in the year and had little desire to drive it but the Turbo is a different beast altogether.
My little boy had a peak at the Turbo last week when I had just arrived home in it to tell me "I don't like your new sports cars face Daddy"! Hey ho, that may just come back to haunt him when I leave it in my will to his little sister :-)

SC switches from normal to sportIn sport mode:
it activates the overboost mode (essentially an extra 0.2bar of pressure), which gives you the extra torque for up to 10 seconds
the throttle becomes more responsive
The PSM settings are retracted slightly
PASM switches to harsher Sport setting (which I immediately turn back to normal as sport is too harsh for the road)
and if you made the mistake of buying a tip it adjusts the gearbox mappings
None of this "switches off" but the overboost only lasts a max of 10 seconds, then you would have to come off boost before it is available to use again - but even if you were accelerating from standstill, you would be doing well over 100mph by then so 10 seconds should be plenty
as soon as I get in I turn SC to sport and PASM back to normal

Great venue/cars/people/coffee &food.
What is the general concencuss on quality aftermarket replacement Stainless steel exhaust systems? I would like more drama in the acoustic department but I would hate to somehow cheapen the car. If I go for one, I will keep the original system should I wish to revert back to OE or should I ever come to sell the car on.

call 9EHaving viewed their website, 9E have a very tidy looking 997.1T in stock with good miles and spec. Would have been on my list to view had my garage not already been filled.
My thoughts on a replacement exhaust are that I would like to have one but being that the car is totally standard, I would not want it to wear the tag of being 'modified'.
Also, I guess insurance companies would need to know that it has a new replacement unit which may up my low premium significantly? Being that it is only a bolt on mod, I may ask my insurance co to quote before deciding which way to go. I would be safe in the knowledge that It can be returned to stock at any stage if I so chose.
