What would be interesting to know is whether the latest recall is actually a fix that resolves the engine issues that most of the owners on here are in denial of the existence of.
1. It currently seems that the older cars are unaffected by this recall - doesn't that tend to support the 'story' that the latest problems are due to issues with parts being installed outside of the required tolerance (I believe), rather than anything more substantial?

2 When you say 'engine issues', what exactly do you mean? Are you suggesting something more fundamentally wrong than parts fitted outside of tolerance?

3.Which owners are 'in denial'?

This assumption would be flawed. Everyone who has been out in one thinks that the engine is fantastic when it works, however all of the track day regulars that I know have met owners who have had reliability experiences not consistent with that of most of the owners found on threads like this on PH. The people with serious issues don't tend to like to shout about their problems on the internet (in part due to an admitted disinclination to talk down the value), but suffice to say I met an owner this year who had just decided to offload his car due to having consecutive European trips scratched (without a single hot lap) due to engine issues and I am aware of a heavily tracked example that has had a jaw dropping number of new motors under warranty.

Now I do know of a few which do have significant use without any issues (including a couple on here) so the car certainly isn't universally flawed, but I find it hilarious the number of people who haven't even got into 5 figure mileages who reckon that they have a basis to comment on the long term reliability of the cars drivetrain.

What it all boils down to is that it is a great car, but a the moment it would be a brave owner who tracked one out of warranty. The recalls reinforce that, however only when they are 9 years old does the basis of most of the negative comments actually become relevant anyway. It is therefore odd that everyone is getting so passionate about it now.

What would be interesting to know is whether the latest recall is actually a fix that resolves the engine issues that most of the owners on here are in denial of the existence of. It is certainly not impossible, so shall we all just leave it for time to tell rather than create another lovers vs haters thread like everything else relating to the car on PH....?
+1

I've apparently had the temerity to highlight factual customer satisfaction issues from buyers in the 2nd hand market for these cars, but I love these cars and am about as far from a hater (or 'randomer' whatever that is thanks rosino) as you can imagine. Easy to make it into a lovers vs haters argument, rather more difficult to have an objective opinion when you own one by the looks.

Are they 're-programming' the engine control unit to hide the fact that it is set to know when the cars is being emission tested?! lol
