As it says , I have a problem with the PSE on my 03 996 C4S . Being a long term 911 owner I bought this car 6 weeks ago as winter transport . The PSE works perfectly in 'loud' mode but when the dash button is pressed (for quiet mode)it makes little or no difference to noise levels ....... it did briefly when I bought the car but lately it's not working at all in quiet mode. There aren't any leaks in the vacuum system and you can hear the flaps operating when it ignition is switched on (but no engine running) so, all seems to be ok I just can't asses why it won't work . Quiet mode can be handy when leaving to the gym at 6:15am . We have tried to spray the actuators in WD40 yet to no avail . Any advice/input is much appreciated

Thanks in advance.

Regards , Barry

From my own experience they can be working one day the seizure up (fully or partly) a couple of weeks later. I've just had both sides replaced with new valves from a 997 by Hartech.

Go to the gym later? :-)

This might help (think they 996 and 997 systems are broadly the same: http://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/712998-997-1-...

On the 996C4S with factory PSE, the exhaust valves do not move when you switch on the ignition.

Usually, it are the valves or the ball heads from the activators that are stuck.
