Time to let it go.

Well as much as I love my 996 GT3 2 I am going to let it go, it is just not getting used which is criminal, I spent 4.5k having everything required done earlier in the year and as we all know the best thing for them is to be used, question is what to replace it with? I had thought about an F car but that will be no different to the GT3 sitting in the garage, so after ideas of a cheapish fun car I can use whenever without worrying about keeping it garaged, where I park it, putting miles on it etc, any ideas welcomed.
Cayman R?What money you looking for your GT3?
Thanks for all the replies, trust me, it is not that the GT3 does not get me excited enough to take it out for a spin, it is just that straight after I purchased it I had a big change in my life and have not had the time to use it as I intended since, hence it spending its time sitting in the garage, whilst I appreciate the value has increased I can't say that I like the idea of just shelling out 1000's every year for maybe a couple of hundred miles seems crazy, I purchased it with 27000 miles and now it has 28600, only 200 of those in the last year. With the value increasing it makes you/me not use it as a daily, so think it is time to get rid and just buy a cheaper alternative that I don't have to cherish and worry about using. Please keep the suggestions coming, going away for Xmas so please excuse slow response.
A 986 Boxster S, add hardtop to leave outside/anywhere, Bilstein PSS9, top mount mod for some more neg camber, RS29 brake pads, bucket seats, (any sump mods?), some Michelin supersports or cup2s, maybe even some lighter 18' wheels and lightweight flywheel...
Maybe £12-14k all in? It would make for a hell of a fun car.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Porsche Boxster 987 Spyder.
I had a few Lotus's (Elise S1 111S, S2 111R, Evora) before I went to the Spyder (due to Lotus mucking me around with my V6 Exige order).
The Spyder is absolutely fantastic and I have not regretted changing all those years ago and not even looking to sell the Spyder after all this time, it is that good.
Essentially you have something that is nearly as focussed as a Lotus but has a little bit more everyday appeal for those long weekend jaunts plus that touch of exclusivity.

Yep, a 996 Carrera and take it to RPM Technik for a few mods to make it more focussed. A chap on here is doing that with a 996 that RPM Technik was selling.
yep, this is the route I am taking. Got the 996 C2 Manual, M030 from RPM and have added a few choice CSR upgrades with more to follow as I get used to the car and decide what to do with it.Cheap route to a lot of fun is my view.

1) you don't love it that much then?2) then use it
3) you're not averse to laying out for upkeep?
4) then use it
5) buy something less good?
Don't understand the attitude... well, sort of do but you're gypping yourself. If you love the GT3 then use it, accept it's going to accumulate miles and chips and need servicing and be one of those people who actually use the thing as it's intended.
As a mere pauper I have a 2005 997.1 C2S... apparently it'll blow up at any minute. Until then it's a supremely competent daily*. It gets mucky, I put the hours and money in to keep it fettled. It's like a family dog, it's loved to bits and comes everywhere. People love telling me it'll blow up at any minute. I nod serenely, then they get back in their A4 and I get back in my 997 and they drive home and I drive home.
My 944 meanwhile is snuggled away in the garage, not rotting away. The 997 sits on the drive waiting for its next adventure.
If I could daily a Gt3 then I would, it'd be criminal not to if I had worked hard enough to afford the thing that made me happy. Like good guitars and good watches these things develop character through use, otherwise they just become the posh kid who never played out.
Get some joy in your heart, man. Drive the thing, through puddles... with a glad heart.
- the kids love it when we go sideways.
Elise S1 is a lovely delicate little car. Capable of genuine pace with a few mods. I have an original Sport 190. Truly lovely little car with relative civility - but in my opinion there is nothing to compare with a big GT car when it comes to the driving experience and you already have one of the very best EVER made (all Marques included) sitting in your garage.

I occasionally think about selling mine (drmark's old car) but can never find anything within a sensible budget to change it for, so unless the price gap between GT3's and GT3 RS's decreases I'll be sticking with mine for a while yet.
Nice problem to haveCar still going strong I hope.

I quite like the fact I only do a few thousand miles a year in it as if feels like every time I take it out I rediscover how much I love driving it.
Happy New Year to you all.
Thanks for all the replies. I had previously thought about a 996 C2 but people kept saying you will hate it compared to the GT3, maybe having a few mods carried out could be the answer, I am not overly worried about having the same performance as the GT3 as to be honest I don't get time to do track days and you really can't use them anywhere near to there full potential on the road. I had a 3.4 Cayman prior to the GT3 and absolutely loved it and did not mind as much using it and parking it most places, although even using that to its full potential on the roads was impossible so maybe a 2.7 could be an option, I know I have read people saying they prefer the 2.7 on here previously. I did have a drive in a Elise once and have to admit it was a great fun little car, it would have to have a hard top though, however would it be ideal for the odd European trip etc, ie, would swmbo be happy with the hard seats? I do love the Spyder, but as mentioned would it be much the same as the GT3 in terms of where you park it etc? E46 M3, could be another practical option, but would I not be better off with the C2?
In answer to a few replies on here, my change in circumstances meant it is a pain to get in and out of the garage having to shuffle several vehicles off the drive back on the drive etc so you tend not to bother, with my change of circumstances I also don't have the time that I had hoped to use it at present, also with it being Viper Green it really stands out and makes me more aware of speeding in it, and finally as it is increasing in value I do not want to be leaving it out in the elements and for some scumbag to vandalise just to enable me to use it all the time. Never have I said or thought that I don't love it enough to use it.
Decisions decisions!
