I will concede that some of the plastic is a bit cheap, and it doesn't have a particularly "solid" feel to it. That said, I had a brand new 62 plate BMW 3 series M-Sport which had infuriating moulding lines on the flappy paddles!

I actually think the 996/986 interior really nicely bridges the gap between the "WTF?" ergonomics of earlier cars, and the boring, corporate generic clinical feeling of later cars. There's no way it would stand up now as a new car quality wise, but for something so old I think it looks absolutely great and perfectly suits that generation of car.

I took mine apart and re-sprayed the rather tired looking "SportDesign" textured matt paint, and it gave me a much more of an appreciation of all of the subtle shapes and the design that went into it.

Jury's still out on the double DIN stereo, if I'm honest I think I should have bought a high end single DIN unit and gone for the GT3 centre console delete...that would make it feel even more "Porsche".

I do like the 986/996 Interior.

Always loved a painted centre console.

When you compare to the competition at the time I think the 996 interior is pretty good.

The 964/993 interior may 'feel' quality but it looks so basic and cheap rent and is the main reason I side stepped them back when they were cheap to buy, opted for an M3 instead.

Edited: yes I do feel like a plonker now given the prices they're selling for

Mines a mash up 997 GT3 alcantara seats, GT2 clocks, loads of carbon and silver, red seat belts and covered alcantara steering wheel. Need side silver vents and alcantara gear stick leather to go with the carbon.

Love the design - my .1 gt3

Nice. I'm sure it was you who was kind enough to allow a TVR pilot a tour of Spa in your passenger seat at a track day a good while back. Made a lasting impression (brakes especially) as you might gather from my latest interior:

I find the 996 cockpit, especially with the full leather and the suede headlining, to be a very pleasant driver's environment. I do actually relish the plainness and businesslike layout when compared to high-end, but busy looking contemporary dashes.

Thanks.

Yes, good trip, but we didn't have the best of weather as I remember!

(I probably owe you about £15 worth of extra fuel for hauling my carcass around the circuit!)
