Remember there are only two 996 Turbo models - the 996 Turbo and the 996 Turbo S - there is no model X50 - it was an option for the 996 Turbo just like heated seats!
Yes, I was meaning how many 996 Turbo's were produced with the X50 option. Its standard fitment on the 996 Turbo S isn't it?My comment was because I have a lot of people who buy these thinking it was an actual model.
As Ken mentioned it's only an option code so it's hard to determine numbers, for the life of me I can't find where I've seen it.
A quick search shows that the questions been asked in the past over on Rennlist, the answer for the US numbers was 1124
Working from that it would leas you to think that the figure I had in mind maybe a little on the low side.
Hopefully someone with a better knowledge will be along shortly as I'm curious myself now.

OP
Great purchase. I have a DMS mapped 996 X50 that had the same over revs when I bought it. They are so easy to bounce when you first own them due to sheer speed distracting you in first and second! Had it inspected by a very well regarded independent and they said don't worry about it.
Epic cars.......forget about the over revs and enjoy it.....mine hasn't missed a beat.

That's look like a great car RPM have, albeit Silver.....Can I ask why you never just opted for the non X50 option
and opened up the market for yourself with many other cars?
With a proper remap standard turbos are quicker than the x50
and the turbos blow in earlier.
Perhaps the car is a pure investment? Or do you intend to map
the larger turbos on the car.
Assuming you buy it of course....

Good question and if I don't purchase this one then I may well do so as there are so few manual X50's currently on the market.and opened up the market for yourself with many other cars?.
I've always tended to go for limited or special edition versions of cars i.e. M3 CSL, 968CS, 964RS, Saleen Mustang, Z3M Coupe, etc. In the day these were less popular cars and received a bad press however they're now expensive cars (not so sure thats applies to the Saleen?).
If you do end up by catching the "upgrading disease" the x50 option will become less relevant, as 997gt2rs intercoolers & k16 based hybrids seem to be where most people end up (even if they try to resist ! ) & given these 2 components are the biggest difference x50/non x50 , better to save a few bob on the purchase price & plough it into making one that is even quicker than an x50 .
