Going to go against the grain here , so bear in mind I have always bought manuals and always preferred manuals at things like pec days .
However I did a pec day yesterday ,a full range one and have to admit I actually enjoyed the pdk car more than the manual .these were standard 991.2 s models ,my gts day is next month .
The ability to keep my hands on the wheel and the way the pdk responded made the car not only noticeably quicker on the track but to my genuine surprise also more enjoyable.
This was not the case in the past when I preferred the manual over the equivalent pdk model ,but the current pdk box and the way it works with the chassis and engine actually made the pdk version the more enjoyable .
Genuinely never thought I would say that .
I've always preferred PDK at PEC . Small twisty track suits it I think . I sold my GT3 as I didn't get on with PDK on the road but then actually did PEC day a month or so after I sold and thought it was great . I've done maybe 10 sessions since in variety of manual and PDK and always prefer PDK , yet on the road I really never settle with it .

I have a June build slot and need to lock down my spec soon. My current plan is to go for a manual coupe in Crayon with Crayon and Blue interior (buckets). First time I've spec'd from new and hoping this colour scheme will work. I currently drive a 997 GTS PDK and am keen to get back in a manual. Off to the PEC tomorrow for a drive!

Please post pics of your car when you take delivery! Your configuration is extremely close to what I would spec.

I'm glad to see other Crayon converts breaking cover. My July GTS Cabriolet will be Crayon. I think the colour looks great in contrast with all the black bits on the GTS and especially with PCCBs.

This is where this thread started and where I am now. M5 going next week and GTS 991.2 arriving to replace it. Will I be happy with the swap?

I've decided to sell my F10 M5 and am looking for a 991 GTS. What are the must have options? I definitely want the GTS package, sports exhaust PDK, but what else should I look for?

If anyone is looking to sell their GTS, please drop me a line. Thanks in advance.

Off topic, how have you found the M5? There's not many cars around the 3yo / £40k mark that seem to offer more bang for buck!

I suppose your incoming GTS is a rwd?

Hello all, although I've been a member for years but this is my first ever post. I just want to say how helpful this thread has been in helping me configure my new GTS. smile I've managed to get a January build slot from my OPC (long wait I know) but it suits me fine as it will be ready for march im told, so an early 18 reg.

My spec is as follows:

Great spec, and apart from the exterior colour, almost identical to mine. As I mentioned previously, I haven't been able to get the ideal seating position with the std 4 way sports plus seat in my GTS, as I couldn't incline the seat base enough, and I wish now that I'd specced buckets, or full electric seats. Unless you've already done so, go and try the std seats to make sure you like them - (it may of course just be me being fussy...!)

I think the issue is that on track there's plenty to excite/interest you apart from the gearchange. Once you can heel and toe, there's not a great deal more to using a manual box on track as you're basically always flat out. And at a competent amateur level I would place myself at, PDK allows me to concentrate more on improving lines and the balance of the car etc which I got more joy from than swapping cogs manually. That's not to say I don't really enjoy manual Porsches on track as well, I do, it's just truth be told I'm pretty much equally happy with either.

On the road it's a whole other thing. All other things being equal (which they weren't with my BGTS, but speaking generally) I'd always go for a manual box in terms of driver interest/entertainment as the nuances of changing gear form a much larger part of the road driving experience.

Thanks. I'll be sure to try the std seats. I am 5ft 8 and weigh under 11 stones so here's hoping the std seats do the job for me. I have until the end of the year to lock down my spec so i'm sure i'll make one or two adjustments to the current configuration. The one i am having most trouble with is the GTS interior, at over 4k that is incredibly expensive! So i'm still trying to justify this, but i do have an eye on resale and based on what people have been saying it is a desirable option. rolleyes

I know it has been discussed before but I am picking mine up soon, what is the best running in procedure? Do I change oil at 1,000 miles?

Thank you.

The M5 is a nice car, but hard to drive quickly, safely, without wheel spinning, oversteer, noise, fear, etc etc. It's just too much too handle in my opinion and the is too big for the car. It's basically a hot-rod (IMHO) which can put you into license-losing territory before you know it. I leased it for three years, putting 15k on the clock. It's mint and they've offered it to me for £35k. It's a lot of car for that kind of money, but as I've said, it's a bit compromised.

The owners manual has running in advice - generally it's drive gently until oil is up to temp, then don't use full throttle or rev over 4000 for the first 2k miles. Porsche will say it's two years before oil change but many owners prefer to get it done at some point before then - I would do it at 1500-2000 miles before the engine gets worked hard - not sure if it's really necessary but it makes me feel better having it done.

Really enjoyed the 7 speed manual at the PEC today and hence going to spec it in my build. Nice short shift action and much improved from a 2013 C2S manual I drove a while ago.

There were at least 4 991.2 GTS cars at PEC so was finally good to see a range of colours in the flesh (sapphire, Miami, carmine and black). I actually thought of those it looked best in Miami although going to stick with crayon. I also compared the crayon colour tile they had to a 997 sport classic in the car park and the colours were very similar which is a good thing in my eyes. Crayon was ever so slightly lighter but not as much in it as I thought.

As an aside I would rather spec the centre lock wheels in a lighter shade as didn't think they looked great in the standard Matt effect black with any of the colours I saw.

Great to here as I've gone manual . I've also gone white but 2nd choice was Miami . Any pics ?

How was the engine ? Noise , power , lag etc .

Have a few rubbish iphone pics which I'll try and upload.

Agree with comments from others that there's minimal lag and felt plenty quick enough for me. Lots of low down and mid-range pull. In fact this was the biggest difference versus the N/A engine for me. On the road the instructor was keen to show off that it'll pull from 50mph in the very long 7th gear with no trouble at all. Doesn't feel like it builds to a crescendo in the same way as the N/A engine so in the real world probably less need to rev all the way to the red - again as expected.

With PSE on the noise is ok although from inside the car I would've still liked it a little louder - I suspect it's only a little louder than a 991.2S. With the windows down it sounded good though so noise is probably much better from the outside. Lots of the usual pops and crackles too which are a bit of a novelty coming from a 997.

I'm locked down now for miami blue, was having second thoughts as I usually go for white but good to hear!

Love to hear your thoughts on the noise, I find listening on YouTube tells you nothing

Bloody hell ,was there on Tuesday and they didn't have one gts .Was this your gts day? Mine is end of May which is annoying as it's too late to swap my spec if I find something I want to add or remove.

Does anyone know the exact specs of those 4x 991.2 GTS at PEC? It would be good to test PDK versus manual, but also RWS versus non-RWS and also 2WD versus 4WD.

You'd hope they'd specced cars to allow you to do that!

Yes, was my GTS day. From memory the 4 specs were:

Sapphire Blue GTS2 Coupe, manual, GTS interior silver stitch.
Miami Blue GTS4 Cab, PDK, GTS interior silver stitch.
Carmine Red GTS4 Coupe, manual, GTS interior red stitch.
Black GTS2or4 Coupe, PDK, standard interior.

Not sure about RWS or not on any of them.
