That is very weird, but equally hilarious.

I assume the R8 (with that reg, there can only be one :lolsmile was yellow and from Stoke? You didn't have that long then, given I only got rid of it in February? What a piece of sh!t...I could list the problems I had with that car until the cows come home, and it was my second one after I rejected my first!! I ended up starting litigation to get my money back, which resulted in a favourable buy back.

Both R8's had noisy front ends, both with clonking front suspension (which I have also seen mentioned by others on a couple of YouTube videos) so it seems to be a characteristic and indicative of the under-developed nature of the new R8. The yellow car was even worse as added to the clonks, that suspension squeaked like a mouse whenever it was driven over any material distance (so very hard to replicate).

Glad to be rid of it, and hopefully the 911 is more reliable. I'm sure it will be, as I've bought three Porsches in the last year (a Cayenne S diesel, a Macan Turbo and an old 987 Boxster) and not one of them has suffered any material issues.

That's the one! I only had it for around 6 weeks. I noticed the issue fairly quickly, combination of a squeaky seat, rattle to the front end suspension, and even more noticeable when it was in comfort setting.

It's odd, because they were the exact issues that they were quite open about telling me you had. To be fair to Stoke, the chap I dealt with was brilliant, I'm not sure the same can be said about the boss there. He was a little too vocal about certain things (as mentioned above). The fact I know far more than I probably should about your dealings with them is probably proof of that.

R8 ran along side my Porsche Macan (another coincidence, honest), and could not fault the Macan even if I tried. Salesmen at Porsche can sometimes be a little.. useless at communication, but the servicing/workshop were faultless.

My concern all along with the R8, and the same concern I had with a GT-R in the past (however ended up using an independent, Litchfield for 4 years like most other owners) was that I'd be taking a "supercar" or very high end sportscar, to the same garage where A1/A3s are worked on. It's not about snobbery, or how much the car costs, I think it's more that the customers expect far different things.

As I say, couldn't fault Stoke Audi as a dealer, they were good to me, and far FAR better than Tamworth Audi, who are literally the worst dealership I've ever dealt with - but as a whole, there is/was a reason why I told myself I'd never buy an Audi again (prior to the R8).

Fingers crossed the GTS is better. I've wanted a 911 since I was a kid. Curious Palmball, which OPC do you deal with?

My 997 GTS is going in for a service in a couple of weeks. Had a loan car booked (which apparently was a Boxster) and was contemplating being a bit cheeky and asking if their 991.2 GTS demo was available for a short test drive....I got an unsolicited e-mail from my OPC sales chap this evening telling me that "unfortunately" my Boxster loan car was loan longer available so would I be okay in their 991.2 GTS demo biggrin So I'm going to have OPC Silverstone's PTS Gelbgrun demo for a day which is more exciting than it should be for a man approaching his 50th birthday! Car has buckets, manual box and PCCB's....I think he knows me rather too well.

You lucky so and so. Although I suspect they do know you well and are hoping you may be tempted. I had my PEC day on Monday and spent a lot of the afternoon in the 991.2GTS manual and have to say it was a fantastic car. PDK was great and probably the more default choice but manual was immense.

In fact I enjoyed the car so much, I decided I couldn't wait until my build slot in October so I've bought a new car (with PDK) that arrived in the dealer about ten days.

The moral of the story - think long before you drive the car as you may well want to buy one sooner rather than later.

Enjoy your day and the Silverstone car is a fabulous example.

Wow....amazed an OPC had a new one coming in that didn't have a name on it ? What's the spec ?!

And yes I am a bit worried I might get over excited.....I spent a lot of time drooling over it in the showroom a couple of weeks ago!

Believe it or not, they have had two! The first was a very highly spec'd Carmine Red that went in the showroom about 10 days ago. It had a lot of extended leather and painted air vents etc and was about £121-122k. That sold after a few days and then this week they put in the Graphite Blue car which I bought.

Spec is good (over £17k on options) so will keep me happy for a while. Main options are GTS pack in Rhodium silver, LED's, Park Assist with camera, Glass roof, PDK, Axle lift, Bose and then a load of other smaller price options. As it was a late-May build I even got it at pre-price increase which saved a whisker under £2k.

I would have spec'd it a little different in all honesty (added RWS and maybe manual) but it means I don't have to wait until October and can enjoy the summer in the car.

Roll on Monday!!

Well I never! I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor that I am speaking the unlucky person to get that piece of sh!t after me. Sorry about that.

I'm even more amazed at how open Stoke Audi were about my history with them, and yes, it's fair to say that their view of my 'unrealistic' expectations and my...err...expectations...means me and the boss there have history. I would suggest that your six week stint in the car experiencing the same issues I had (many of which existed in exactly the same manner on the previous one I rejected) suggest the product (and not me) is the problem.

As I say, no such issues with Porsche.

I'm not one to bad mouth publically (and let's be frank, I could have taken them to the cleaners on social media with the email and video evidence I have of their dismal service and the poor product quality) but I'll leave it as this....I will never buy an Audi from Stoke again, even if they were the cheapest (they are, and for a reason!). I will never let any of my family buy from them and I will do all I reasonably can to deter anyone that I come across from doing so. I will also avoid Audi in future for the reasons you mention - it's not about snobbery, but the 'brand' doesn't know how to treat customers who are spending the price of a cheap northern house on a car. Will it make a difference? Of course not, but it'll give me a tingle of satisfaction.

So, what did you do with the R8? Did they take it back (again!)?

Onto the more positive subject of Porsche, I deal with Porsche Leicester. They're my local dealer. I know what you mean about the evasive nature of many Porsche salespeople as I have friends who experience just that and I have too at other dealers. Must be great being able to sell every car you can get your hands on but even so.....

However, the salesman I deal with at Leicester, David, is really very good indeed. He's been there since the Leicester dealer started and you can tell. I bought my first Porsche from him, a 997 Turbo back in 2010, and since then he's kept in contact regularly and let's me take out their new demos for a weekend as I wish.

I don't buy every Porsche from them because I don't always buy new and Sytner group don't always have the stock I want to buy. Case point, I've just swapped the wife's Macan (after three months lol) for a 718 Boxster S and bought a year old one from Cambridge (Lanacaster group), who to be fair were also very good indeed.

Can't believe you have a Macan too......

Don't tell me, you're called Andrew too???

I speak highly of Stoke Audi, but that's in comparison to Tamworth Audi as I mentioned, are literally the worst dealership I have EVER been in. They actually won an award I believe for being the lowest rated Audi dealership in the UK. Just one example of the quality: I bought an Audi A3 from many, many years ago. The car was crud, and I wanted to get rid of it ASAP, I was naive and believed the "30 day policy" was literally being able to return the car if you didn't like it (as that is word for word what the salesman told me). Fast forward many many years, I went in to buy an RS6, money ready, RS6 was on sale. I then ended up having to chat to a sales manager who remembered me (7 years later!), who refused to sell me the RS6 until I apologised for the issues I caused re: A3. (Issues: I argued that I'd been mis-sold, was ignored on multiple occasions, so I proceeded to walk into their regional sales meeting that was held at the dealership, and demanded someone sorted it!)

Suffice to say, I didn't buy the RS6, and subsequently Tamworth Audi is now no longer an Audi "RS" Specialist/Dealership. What a bloody surprise?

The R8 went back to Stoke, again. The guy I dealt with (Chris) was a good bloke as I say, and gave me a genuinely good price on buying it back (I lost next to nothing, relatively speaking when dealing with these sorts of cars). The "boss" on the other hand, was fairly unreasonable. Threatened to lower the price of buy-back price by £8,000 if I didn't return the car by 5PM, this was via a phone call at 3:30PM on a Friday, when I live over an hour away from the dealership. Getting back to the R8 in question, it would appear it's been sold again!

Onto Porsche - Oddly, although it just seems to becoming the norm now, the Macan was the missus' car, who actually saw a 718 in the dealership when we were in there and wanted to swap the Macan out for it. I'm glad we didn't, partially because the Macan is such a bloody good car, but also because I can't cope with anymore similarities!

I've dealt with Leicester Porsche before, Tim I believe. Never ended up purchasing anything from them, but they definitely seemed one of the better places.

My opinion of Porsche OPCs is that they are better than Audi, but it certainly feels like a Gentlemans Club at times. I've been told on multiple occasions how "most of our customers have been with us for over 30 years", implying that's a criteria required to get "in" with the DP for the holy "GT" cars. That being said, I actually quite like the idea of feeling a bit more "part" of something, even if it is blatantly driven by how much money you fancy throwing at them!

Let's hope I'm mistaken and Detee, I'm sorry if I have offended you and your stunning new car.

PS - loving the interior!.

No offence taken, I agree that all photos are misleading and in the flesh it is so much nicer, the interior is a lovely place to be. The sparkle only comes out in the sun and after a detail. It would be dull if we all liked the same thing, I fancied crayon but not sure how strong it is in the flesh. In the end I am thrilled, I did not want to wait for PTS and did not fancy the other colours that much.
