991 GTS Must haves
Discussion
There's a Miami blue video on iTunes where he does 200mph and he talks about the sport and sport plus. He talked about there are no pops and crackles on sport plus, just overrun so it's supposed to be like this.
The sound on the 991.1 is a very different animal. I decided after 3 months of having a 991.1S to upgrade to the GTS as I felt totally numb, especially the noise and hope the GTS is a bit louder. All the clips I have seen on u tube seem to say it is better as less sound deadening and bigger turbos but still no match for the 991.1 GTS

You need to hear the exhaust with someone else driving. Much different outside the car.
I was at snetterton sunday for the porsche cup,and the GTS safety car sounded immense in Sport.
Paddock tour showed that all the race cars run steel brakes...
And yes the pop and bangs are for sport posing, when it gets down to business in Sport+ it makes a whole other screaming sound when pushed..
Hope that helps.

i had 24 hour test drive in a 991.2 GTS yesterday, one thing i noticed that seemed strange was that the exhaust made a lot more noise (pops and crackles etc) in Sport than in Sport Plus - is that normal? also does the exhaust get louder with age? as that was my one real disappointment (the sound), how much better does a 991.1 GTS sound?
Also the car i tested had PCCBs but no rear steering, frankly the driving experience and handling were fantastic... i'm wondering how much of that is attributed to the PCCBs? i don't mean from a braking perspective, more from a light and nimble and more chuckable perspective - if that makes sense. Thats the thing i love about my F430 and loath about my M4 (it feels like a tank), the F430 shrinks around you and feels light and nimble (fun!).... i'd be disappointed if having steels took the shine off the driving experience... any thoughts? clearly trying a car with steels would help but thats not an option at my local OPC
991.1 GTS has a totally different sound. It builds up to a fantastic crescendo as you approach the rev limiter and has a rawness to it. I did also drive the .2 gts at PEC and I think it sounds a lot louder from outside than inside the car. Try out a .1gts and see which sound you prefer

The only issue I have with the howl of my .1 GTS is that in order to hear it you have to be traveling at some serious pace, flat out in 2nd is enough to get you in trouble.
yeah that would be a concern, thats whats nice about the 430, in second at 4000rpm part throttle is enough to get the full noise experience which isn't stupidity fastgoes the gen 1 have lots of exhaust gun fire? as this is what i'm really into (yes i am 10 years old lol)

speaking of spec, whats everyone's thoughts on full leather, i'm not a massive fan of Alcantara (and nor is Nick Murray it seems - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aebUNgMhQV4) plus its over £2k cheaper!
Also are the 18-way seats worth the money? again almost £2k, they feel like the sort of thing you'd adjust once then leave them...
thats £4k to spend on rear steering and sunroof, something you get benefit from every-time you drive rather than just once

My personal opinion is Alacantra should be in a GTS as thats one of the things a GTS is about however each to their own. I am not speccing 18 way on my new one and currently have 18 way which are nice but I had 4 way before and don't think the 18 way are that much better (again just my opinion and many swear by the 18 way but if you don't need lumbar support, I personally wouldn't bother again - although the silver buttons look impressive!) not bothered by the sunroof as it just makes my head hot but I do like the contrasting black on the roof and it does make the cabin a bit more airy and light.
I have gone rear wheel steer and am petrified of wishing afterwards that I had ordered axle lift as lots of speed humps and ramps around me so that's my dilemma.
Who has gone on the configurator the most, I have gone on every other day and played with my spec, so hard not to tick more boxes!!!

I think if you want that noise you'll be slightly disappointed. (Ive driven a 430 and the noise is epic)goes the gen 1 have lots of exhaust gun fire? as this is what i'm really into (yes i am 10 years old lol)
I have a 981 Boxster GTS and that's the sound you're after, one of the best sounding porsches, lots of pops and bangs on overrun, really loud ones.
I really love them too, and am trying to bring myself to the fact that I won't get those again in a new Porsche unfortunately
I'm test driving a 991.2 GTS at PEC in a couple of weeks to see for sure, but from videos they aren't anywhere near as loud as the Boxster. I've test driven a .2 S and it was near silent in comparison, even with the PSE.
I'm not going for a 991.1 either as even though it sounds better than the new one (but still not as good as the Boxster), that's about the only thing worth having it for, every other bit of it is better on the .2.

I have the alcantara gts interior in my Boxster and it's what makes the gts, so I'd never not spec it in one. Also are the 18-way seats worth the money? again almost £2k, they feel like the sort of thing you'd adjust once then leave them...

I am debating about the seats too, I have the sports plus 4 way in the Boxster, and as long as you're the only one who drives it, it's not too bad (they always come back changed when it goes into Porsche too) but on the Boxster, if you don't spec the 18 way then you don't get the other benefits like memory on the seats, electronic adjustable steering wheel etc, not sure if it's the same on the 911?
They're expensive, but every time I get in a Porsche with them, I always promise myself I won't spec the poverty seats again!

think i need to get a drive, i kinda ruled one out on the basis that's its £90K+ for a 2 year old one and a new one is about £110k in my spec
If you like sound then you do need to drive a .1GTS as the sound is definitely a lot louder (in fact I'm missing the sound more than I thought I would). My .1GTS is however for sale if you're interested and still under OPC warranty for 17 months.

I see you have or hav had both 991 and Boxster GTS.My .1GTS is however for sale if you're interested and still under OPC warranty for 17 months.
How do they compare particularly fron a noise perspective?

Boxster GTS is definitely the loudest, almost rude and quite a lot of the time I'd turn off the PSE to tone things down. GT4 really cool and nice sound, not too loud and the most motorsport in tone. 991.1GTS Louder than the GT4 with more induction sound in the cabin and probably my favourite tbh. Macan GTS - great sound and surprisingly loud outside and good note inside. 991.2GTS definitely the quietest so far, but only 1800 miles so still running in.How do they compare particularly fron a noise perspective?
From a drive POV Boxster is fun and you can wring its neck pretty well, but I do prefer the ride/drive of the 911's and I don't know why, they are more comfortable and have a higher grade interior imo even thought both were full leather. Boxster gave me serious back ache after less than an hour, 911 with 4-way seats are super comfortable after many hours.
