Alcantara seems to be the 'must have' so the question is how durable is it and does it keep it's appearance? I would have preferred the leather interior with alcantara (i.e. seats and steering wheel in leather and the rest alcantara) but that seems sacrilege.

thanks for your views

Alex
I have the alcantara gts pack in my Boxster, after 2 years and 22k miles there is no wear whatsoever on the alcantara on the seats. I have a slight crease in the driver side bolster which is leather in the Boxster, guess it's from getting in and out, but the seats in the 911 have alcantara on the bottom bolsters it seems.

The only thing showing wear in the car is the alcantara steering wheel, where I hold the wheel on the sides. I've never cleaned the wheel though, so probably with some attention that could be sorted. You wouldn't really notice it unless I pointed it out to you, and I'm going for the alcantara wheel in the 911, so it's not put me off. I have considered the carbon wheel, I just think it might look a bit too much, plus the alcantara wheel is perfect for grip, no worries about the wheel getting too hot in summer or sweaty.

this recent thread has some good commentary on general wear & tear of alcantara & keeping it clean.

they said march april next year. not really bothered tbh, even june / jul will be fine. I don't know when production stops but had the order confirmed so all good.

I have been doing a lot of driving in my wifes JCW which has been so much fun with the manual. ive left the auto at home. I will try pdk at the pec but I think my heart is set on manual as I love stirring gears and adds an extra challenge on full bore up shifts. near enough 500 hp with a stick is my cup of tea. even pdk on manual mode feels like I am not doing in much and I love being engaged on the drive, even if it is a daily driver on the way to meetings!

this is the spec PJXJDTW5
Thanks JT. wow approx 6 month lead time... I may get my skates on then. Ideally would like to be delivered and run-in for Le Mans.
FWIW the drive at the PEC was pdk, may have to give a manual a try (997TT & Carrera 3.2 are with sticks).

Nice spec, thanks for sharing.

I went for a nice long drive in my GTS this evening for the first time in two weeks and after playing with the settings discovered my latest preference. This involves turning the dial to sport/plus and in manual using the actual gear lever to change gear rather than the paddles. Using sport/plus rather than sport mode gets rid of the fake burbles and pops and imo the sound is purer and more genuine.
The speed of the manual shifts in sport/plus is electric and i feel makes it more involving to drive than using the paddles.I also love the correct gearlever direction aka sequential like where moving it forward for down changes and backwards for upshifts which to me feels far more enjoyable and intuitive than the old way.

Pdk is definitely epic, but I am just too old skool to want it in a fun car. There is no denying a pdk cruising in 7th and then kick down and it drops to 3rd is lightning fast and will make all the difference if racing or if you need to get a quick overtake done.

Also Something about a big burly torquey engine with a stick as well though. Being in the right gear at the right time, balancing the car on the way in to a bend etc. At road speeds a manual will engage more for me. With pdk I guess you can just barrel in balls deep and not worry about anything which then means you are going to fast for the road.

Only time will tell I guess. Porsche are lending me their demo in a couple weeks for the afternoon. Think that is a pdk and prob have to try a Carrera S or whatever is at the PEC to feel how the manual compares. Also specced RwS and want to see how that improves things.

Hoping it makes the car feel nimble like my old 987 spyder. The last 991.1 gts felt like a bit of a barge in the bends in comparison although the 3.8 was mega.

My car has just gone through 1900 miles and after a good blast yesterday I'm noticing the exhaust has really woken up and become louder today in both normal and sport mode.

The difference is so pronounced that I had to check the flaps were working correctly by switching the loud button on and off.

How is everyone else finding the sound in their cars as on other cars (991.1GTS & GT4) I've found it has taken around 4K miles to achieve higher db..

I'm very pleased as I was finding the sound way too quiet before.

There is one thing that is bugging me and that is, why don't Porsche make the exhaust louder or perhaps give you the option of buying a louder one (more money for them). My GTS hasn't arrived yet so can't compare but the general thread on nearly everything I read/listen to is that it's a bit too quiet inside and most people would prefer it louder- not saying that as a critism, just a preferred choice

I find the sound muted in the cabin, but from outside it sounds very good.
I find having the sunroof open along with the windows allows you to actually enjoy the sound but obviously in the uk the opportunity to do that is limited.

After completing over 5K in milage, In normal driving I find the sports exhaust sound is good from the outside. Having the sun roof tilted open or the window slightly open will confirm this. The sound inside is not so loud as my previous 991.1 GTS but still on lower revs it can be heard.

I do agree,. with the milage increase I do find the sound louder than it was new.

If you press the map button the max speed on any road is displayed on there (for free) smile
The camera reads the road speed signs as well so to is more accurate
Err...so does the map, the second you are at a speed limit road sign it instantly changes so not bad for free.

Does not surprise me in the least..The 991,2GTS PDK coupe is a proper rocketship throughout the whole rev range and imo the dark horse amongst contemporary 991s. I just hope its not going to dull my first drive in my new GT3 in terms of sheer urge when it arrives in october.
I love my GTS even more now as i drive it in manual sport/plus mode and use the main gear lever to change cogs and its electrifying.

It's using the map data though, from the map it knows when the change in speed limit happens.

The option includes a camera that actually reads the road signs, and is therefore always going to be more accurate as it's live data, unless it can't read it and then is resorts back to the map data.

It also displays the limit for variable speeds such as the m25 and m42 etc, the map will just show it as 70 is my belief.

You're right, for free it's ok, but it can't be relied upon like the option can be more often

Hi All,

I have a question for all UK car buyers! I have a 991.2 gts Arriving in January! So excited! However my license plate will be a 67 plate as registered first half of the year. If I wait for a march delivery i will get a fresh 18 plate. Does this affect resale value at all? Should I wait till march? Technically my car will be registered jan 2018 so it will be a 2018 car anyway.

All opinions welcome please!

Thanks!

My opinion is that whilst it is likely to make a difference, I think it will be a very small one and certainly not one that would make me wait an agonising two months
