Im only using Porsche this time, on my other cars ive used Independents, if the film was to go wrong then ill just pop it back to my local OPC apposed to a long ass haul to the Independent, having it done to help with the road crap.

My understanding from local OPCs was they outsource the PPF application vs doing it in-house.
re cost - depends on who's doing it. Some are expensive, others classed as more reasonable.
For reference I had my MB GTS front end, headlights, wing mirrors & sills clear PPF'd, the remainder gtec coated for 1k by Topaz which IMO is considerably cheaper than a front end re-spray to remove the lower road rash etc. It won't stop all damage but should prolong the need for any paint.

Any thoughts on Gtechniq applied by OPC? I was offered this free as part of a 'discount'. Is Gtechniq going to withstand being jet washed and English winter? I know its ceramic based. Have no idea how long it will last.

Come with a 5 or 7 year guarantee I think. Our Cayenne has a ceramic coating and it needed some paintwork thanks to Mrs Cheib misjudging the width of the car....bodyshop were fine about it but said I should have told them as they can't just paint over it...needs removing with a sanding type disc. So from that evidence I'd say it deffo withstands a jetwash.

Up to you whether you'd rather have money or the Gtech though

I had it installed by my OPC and although way too early to tell about longevity, they did do a really good job. They confirmed that if appplied incorrectly, it can only be sanded off so I take it that it's pretty strong stuff.

They should tell you which products were used, another thing to consider is - are they Gtechniq approved. A quick check on the Gtechniq website would confirm this (or not).

You should the Gtechniq warranty card? Free 12 month checkups on the coating and top up if required.

Here's a Lava Targa in the sunshine. A decent camera with good light can capture the colour well. To my eyes this looks pretty close to how it appeared to the naked eye at the time.

Same thing for black wheels - if the light is right and the camera is capable, they show up fine biggrin

This was rental from Porsche Drive in Stuttgart, about 10 minutes later it was doing 170+ back down the 'bahn. Fantastic car!

Well here it is, after what feels like an eternal (5 month) wait.

Here's a few first impressions after 30-odd miles....

- It looks spectacular and I'm very happy with the colour choice. Love the ride height and stance.

- The interior quality and level of personalisation sets a new high benchmark for me. The stitching options have come out really nice and I'm delighted with the painted air vents (with their somewhat preposterously leather covered slats!)

- I reckon it sounds FAN-bloody-TASTIC. I get why some die-hard 911 aficionados might be a bit 'meh' about it as yes, it is a different sound. But different doesn't equate to inferior. It still retains a proper 911 howl, but it's deeper (and arguably more refined-sounding) than the old N/A. As good as the V10 in my previous R8? Probably not, but then it's so different it can't really be compared. I didn't miss the V10 sound in the 987 Boxster I bought as a temporary smoker, so I'm not going to miss it now.

- Power delivery is good, and it feels very fast. Even in the context of the 610bhp R8, simply because that needed revs all the time. This just goes hard at any revs, so I would argue in day to day situations on UK roads, at worst it's as fast as the R8. In my opinion, it's still obviously a turbocharged engine....some comments suggest it feels N/A but it's far too strong for that and yes, there is some momentary lag low down. But the lag is only really noticeable in the standard driving mode; it's so well managed in Sport mode that it MUST have some kind of anti-lag system working away in the background. Throttle response is good, again not 100% N/A sharp (I'd give it 98% to the R8's 100%), but you'd have to be on some kind of OCD-spectrum for it to bother you.

- It feels surreal in bends. I'm conscious PDCC is not liked by all but I don't like the feeling of body roll so I do rate the system. The combination of PDCC and 4WS makes it feel somewhat invincible.

- The ride is fairly 'robust' though! Actually, it's just very hard, but at least it's very well controlled. Honestly, if the GT cars are materially stiffer than this then it's a good job I can't get one as they're not for me! In it's softest setting, it's materially harder than the R8 was in it's firmest setting.

- It rides very low, so much so that I'm going to need to be careful over speed bumps and even going into my drive (admittedly on an unfinished road) it just touches the ground in the middle of the car. In this respect it seems to ride much lower than the R8 did. One of the few boxes I didn't tick was the £1.5k axle lift system, mainly because it was yet another expensive option but also because I'd probably forget to use it!

- I debated the value of the Burmester option in the Macan and Cayenne, mainly because it was quite a bright sounding system in those cars (although on hearing the crappy Bose in the 718 my wife has just bought, I would still go for Burmester again and again). In the 911 there's no such concerns; it's a good sounding upgrade and if you do like to listen to music, it's a worthwhile upgrade.

Fantastic looking car and spec. Is it for sale up at Newcastle OPC? If not it's very similar and can't be many with such a big spec as yours!

Decent head to head with the M4CS. Jethro loves the GTS.......even heard him say it's faster than the GT3 most of the time.

Got me thinking about Guards now too......
Good find that.

My self coming from a .1 GT3 can honestly say that i prefer the GTS as an overall car, Limiting factors for me are the Pirelli tyres, other than that its a great car.

Hi all! New member here, have been keeping an eye on this forum as I Specced my .2 gts and i collected it a couple weeks ago, couldn’t be more happy with the car. The perfect sports car/ daily in my opinion.

Wanted to ask a quick question to anyone with the rear axle steering. I optioned it on my car however I haven’t really been able to notice any improvements in agility compared to when I tested it a few months ago. Even if I turn the steering wheel full lock when going slowly and then break, you can’t see the rear wheels turning in the opposite direction at all. Do you think there is a possibility that it may have not been installed ?

Thank you for your help!

The fact that you haven't noticed it is a good thing, it should just feel sharper on turn in. OR you could always poke your head out of the window and should see it...

When i did a test drive at the PEC the instructor chap showed me the difference - thereis an obvious way to tell if a 991 has RWS. The 'bushes' are a different colour. I cant expand on that not being technically minded but am back there on monday so will ask. Cant you check if your car has it via the chassis no. Any OPC should be able to confirm the full spec of your car.
