I came away more concerned about my driving licence than my GTS spec. Got flashed by the Hadecs system (85mph) going south on the M1 around northampton. I realised afterwards that the only other time i had been through this area in recent years it was 50mph average limit, and it is now a fully functioning smart motorway. I then realised afterwards that i drove through the newly opened m5 around worcester at a similar speed last friday. I’ve only had a single ticket in the last 22 yrs, so hoping i haven't picked up many points :-( I didnt realise there are now permanent speed cameras operational on the motorways that will give you a ticket for doing over the national limit. I thought thy were there to police the temporary advisory limit in peak hrs.
Get the Waze App on your phone. You can use it as Sat Nav or just have it open at the map and it'll warn you about speed cameras and average speed limit zones. I got a ticket doing 34 mph in the summer and had to do the speeding awareness course....my first ticket in years and I only my third in thirty years of driving. They talked about "smart motorways" on that course...it's so easy to get a ticket now. tywitops said:
This forum thread is fantastic and I am now ready to ask a question as I need some advice for you guys -
I am really excited to be going into my OPC this Friday with the intention of placing my £5k downpayment for a GTS build slot. But have 2 questions I'd appreciate your advice on:
Question 1: --
Should I go for a GTS 4 or a 2 WD GTS? I am told that the 2 WD GTS is amazingly stable but I have been spoilt from having a 4wd Nissan GTR that gave so much confidence. In my GTS I don't want to feel any rear-wheel 'twitches', having also owned a C63in the past! I don't consider myself to be a brilliant driver - so therefore what would be my best solution here - a GTS 4 standard spec or a GTS 2wd with added rear wheel steering for example?
Question 2: --
I intend to use the GTS as an every day car - what can realistically expect as real-world mpg?
I'd really appreciate any response before Friday morning - and will let you know what I go for - thanks.
I puzzled over this before ordering mine,I went rwd as I thought it more fun on a pec day I did where I tested the full range, and delivery was 3 months quicker.I am really excited to be going into my OPC this Friday with the intention of placing my £5k downpayment for a GTS build slot. Having just sold the gts ,I found you could lose traction when it is very wet and cold but aside from that it is very difficult to even if you try.
I think if you live where I live (countryside ) you could justify 4wd because of the way it deals with the farm muck left on the roads, which can be tricky in the winter, but really aside from that not really sure why you would need awd.I also noticed on the pec day the 2wd did feel much lighter on its feet ,and dare I say faster, which I genuinely wasn't expecting.
Same here as everyone else, I was between the two, I test drive a 2 and a 4 back to back at silverstone and the difference was massive. As some have said, the 4 made me feel like a driving god, but was too clinical and ‘safe’.
The 2 felt so much lighter, and playful, but never scared me, and that was hooning it around the handling track in the damp.
So I went 2wd with rws.
If I lived somewhere like Germany that have proper winters, I think it would be a no brainier for a daily driver to go 4wd, but for me, the 2wd was more exciting.

Anyone got a view on paint protection film (PPF). Worth doing, or not?
Cheers

PPF i have had a 2 cars now, my take on it , if you are going to keep the car for a duration its worth doing, if not then dont bother, I liked the thought of it but done south it costs alot of money, not sure id have it again, possibly on the front bumper and bonnetCheers

Thanks to all of you that advised on either a GTS 2 or GTS 4 - here is my news:
As planned, I went to my local OPC today and they were fantastic - test drove both the 2wd and 4wd back to back. The 2wd is way more assured than I realised (amazing) and so easy to drive. The 4wd just gave me total confidence in all conditions (and living in the country, maybe I'll need that some days. I also love the red light/stripe bar across the back of the 4.
So, I went ahead and ordered a GTS 4 with rear wheel steer, steering plus etc etc and paid my £5k down payment.
The best bit of all is that I have a February build slot for March 1 delivery :-)
For reference to others - I managed to get a great deal (they called it "dealer contribution") with my OPC and they were hell-bent on bettering what I'd already been offered at another OPC. Plus, they then decided to include the interior and exterior Auto Glym treatment.
Very happy indeed - and excited too! Thanks all.

May I ask what you were offered? PM me if preferable I think your find the ‘discount’ was a sweetener, most likely from either a PX deal or the OPC was a franchise, I know that my Porsche Owned do not carry out this practice, my opinion, I actually like that they don’t. As it makes the residuals strong, unlike. Mercedes where they chuck £££ just to get the deal done! Come time to flog it, and it’s not worth a bean
