Hi Budflicker. I won’t pretend that the sound is at the same levels as the 991.1GTS, but the .2GTS does get louder after 1800 miles and then louder as it gets to 4K.

Sport is loudest (plus pops and crackles). Sport plus is not as loud and no pops.

Hi Russ

As lovely as your GTS Targa is, and it really is very nice, I don't like convertibles and i do want alcantara, oh and I want a Carmine red one as well.

Heard your new arrival is a 4ltr Manual, very lucky man !!!

With regards the noise Shiverman, the demo car I drove was on 2500 miles or thereabouts if i recall correctly.

Hi Budlicker..At least you don't ming giving an honest opinion..I bought a new 991.2GTS coupe PDK in May and had it for five months until i picked up my new GT3..I thought the GTS was the best Porsche i've ever owned although my new GT3 might take that mantle when i have run it in properly..I agree with you to an extent on the noise however it apparently sounds better from the outside.
I mostly drove mine in Sport+ mode and manual to get rid of the fake pops and farts which i disliked.

Hi Budflicker, I came from a 991.1 Carrera into a 991.2 GTS, I love the GTS, however, my 991.1 was so much more available i.e. you could relatively easily use it to near its full potential, whereas the .2 GTS is a very good way of accruing more points on my licence. Do I regret the change, to be honest sometimes yes I do, but not most of the time.

Hi Budflicker, I am due to pick up my .2GTS this month having placed the order in early August. When I test drove the GTS there was only a PDK available and having come from a 3.4 manual 981 I was, like you totally underwhelmed and it could have been other fast sport saloons however competent the PDK box is. Then drove GTS with manual box and the transformation was incredible. Noise aside I would bet if manual is your thing the GTS in that guise will not disappoint.

Thank you all for your replies. I am hoping that a manual 991.2 GTS is transformative, however after watching many many Youtube vids on the 991.2 I don't think I'm going to get that noise I crave in a sports car, nor do I believe the T will solve this issue either.

Akrapovic make a slip on exhaust back box in titanium that certainly improves the sound but probably voids the warranty at the same time. It's also another £4000 by the time it's been fitted, this to replace the brand new sports exhaust on a £106000 careekeekeek

So I'll go to Silverstone to drive the manual with fingers crossed, because PDK box and lack of noise aside I really think it's a brilliant car.

If not I think it will be a manual 991.1 GTS or 981 Cayman GTS if I can find a low miles one in the spec and colour that I want.

Funny thing regards the PDK, driving the wifes Discovery today which is a ZF auto box and nowhere near as good as the PDK, while discussing my current 1st world issues and I would never in a hundred years buy a Discovery/Range rover/Cayenne type of car without a auto box. I love them in the right car,yet it left me cold in the Porsche. A bit like not liking apples or apple pie but loving apple sauce on pork chops.

Good luck to all awaiting delivery and I look forward to the photos and reports of your new toys.

Hi Bud, I think Sharkwerks do one, if you read the GT3 thread they are talking about it.

Enjoy your trip to the PEC.

Video review of the Manual 991.2 GTS here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxLtBQOXdjI Sums up how you feel I think.

I very nearly bought my OPC's 991.2 GTS demo which was a manual car back in the summer...great car but I decided to stick with my manual 997 GTS. 991.1 GTS with a manual box is a rare car but they do come up....good luck with the search if that's what you end up going for.

Hi All

I'm new to the Forum but been watching it for some time and was lucky enough to receive my GTS just before Christmas. I planned to take more photos but still haven't got round to it so thought I'd share this one in the meantime. It looks like the car is almost exactly the same and from the same dealer as another on here a week ago. Sadly due to Christmas holiday I haven't been able to drive it much yet, but that will change soon. It's another Agate grey GTS with red stitching... I think the combination looks great.

Hi Andydon,

Apologies - I think you replied to my message in December when I posted my pic of the Agate grey GTS I picked up from Guildford too, just haven’t been on here.

My first trip was straight to Usk in Wales with my 3 petrolhead sons in the car, nice first trip!

Hope you get to drive it more soon.

Quick question to the forum: running in. Forgot to ask for “official” guidance but what is the consensus? Have been taking it easy so far especially with the wet roads but advice gratefully received.

That review sums it up very well for me indeed. I've decided not to bother going to Silverstone and trying the manual as i feel it would be a waste of both my and their time. The new turbo engines just are not for me.

That's a shame. I personally think the GTS 991.2 is the best car I've ever owned. I like the fact it's not too noisy, but perhaps I am just getting old. I loved the sound of the 981 Spyder for about 6 months and then just got a bit fed up of it!

PS - here's quite a good video for sound comparisons!

Hi Budflicker,

your posts have real resonance with me. I found myself with the same sentiments some six months ago. I did try the manual box and it didn't make me feel significantly different. A lot like in the video; I ended up really wanting to love the car and although it is a fantastic thing I didn't feel that I would fall in love with it and I certainly didn't Lust after it!

I was gutted! Having summond the wherewithall to get back into a new 911 I was very disappointed to have to admit it just wasn't what I wanted in reality. Just didn't light me up as much as i wanted...

In the end I found resolution in an unexpected place! I literally went back to square one and tried lots of cars I hadn't previously considered (as I had been totally 911 focused). After my 13y.o son suggested it (pestered me in fact!) I tried and Audi R8 (Iv'e always dismissed the R8 as too wide, too impractical and DCT only).

However, I was blown away not only by the sheer Drama and charisma of the engine, but also by how easy it is to use as a daily driver if required. So much so that I took as many test drives as I could to confirm my feelings.

To cut a long story short I found myself at the Frankfurt IAA when the R8 RWS was launched and after a brief chat with Steffan Winleman I took the plunge and ordered one. I've had the car for two weeks, its clocked up over a thousand miles and I absolutely adore it... DCT and all!!

While I'm not saying that this is the correct course of action for you, I do think you have identified certain characteristics that you desire. Have a ball, drive some things you may not have previously considered and hopefully you will find something that you really just have to have!

Good luck!

T

Hi Spy

I had seen that clip previously and the T sounds pretty good in the clip. In fairness if i opened the window the GTS sounded better, but a lot of it is farts and fake burbles whereby the engineers have created some noise by dumping some fuel on the headers. The issue is that I don't drive around with the windows open, so sure it sounds good to pedestrians and other motorists but I'm in the cabin with the aircon blasting and can't enjoy it having dropped a fair sum of money on my new big boys toy.

Please don't take the fact I was not impressed by the theatre of the car as a condemnation of the 991.2. I think it is a wonderful car in almost every other way, fast, good looking, comfortable, agile and many other superlatives one could use. It just wasn't for me. I also expect that had i never driven any previous 911 versions i would have been blown away.

It was a bit like getting to sleep with your wife's better looking younger sister. Familer
and great to look at, but the wife's actually a lot filthier, noisier and more fun.

Thanks Tarka, I'm currently leaning towards keeping the current 911 and getting a 981 Cayman GTS to run alongside it. Unless a Carmine red, manual 991.1 GTS with GTS interior pack and low miles turns up. Or maybe a Unicorn which could prove easier to findsmile:

My wife's sister is 23! That would cause a few issues. I've got a GT3 Touring coming in March - will do a 'sound battle' and report back!

Feedback been very positive about RWS on here. Maybe not bad value in the scheme of things compared to other options! I questioned having it, but convinced myself pretty quickly so now in my locked down build.
