Thanks Spaceman

Have sent you a PM and would be great to get in touch - same with anyone else who might be thinking - would be very interested to have a chat

OP / Juddder / Alex
Did you go to see the Space Grey one, keen to know what it's been for sale for so long at that price?

Why do you feel the need to hurl abuse and insults at anyone who does not agree with you?

You are confused in that you think your opinion is fact, when it is only your opinion.

And you make Ronaldo appear to be shy and retiring in comparison with your ego - you actually said you know more about Porsche's than Porsche!

Calm down a bit and enjoy!

Did you end up going for this one and if so was it from Portiacraft?
Yes, I went up to Portiacraft yesterday as it's about 40 minutes away from me and they have a good range of cars so thought it was a good place to start

I had a good look at the 996s there, both the C4S they have and the Turbos and decided in the end that a manual is ideally really what I want

The two sales guys were very helpful and busy selling cars to customers [so that must be good] and after chatting to one of them at the end he said that the Grey Turbo was actually sold this week, so just as well!

They had a 997 Turbo in black which they were getting ready for sale (parked out the front to the side, with the exhaust removed) but black doesn't work with my female co-pilot, interestingly nor do convertibles in London, so it's a non-Black, non-Convertible, ideally Manual 996 Turbo that I need

Phew!

The Dublin plated '02 is looking beautiful after the wash BTW so if the owner does change their mind... wink

On other news I am having some chats privately with a few people that got in touch, many thanks and really appreciated it, so I will explore and see how we all get on - no rush from any of us luckily

Regards and thanks again for all the advice, directions and tips as well as the photos

This is turning into the longer 996 Turbo thread on PH by the looks of it!

Hi Alex

I was after that 996 Turbo myself, it would have been my third so far.rolleyes

My wife was getting fed up with me going on about wanting another (I sold my last one 7 years ago for £26k and with its age and my mileage it would not be worth anything up to £50k - according to others for sale) so I called them but they said someone else had already made an offer.

There was no deposit down so I said I would pay full price today but to their credit they refused and said they would give the other guy time to get his finance in place first. That gave me a lot of respect for them and I thought just now the other guy could have been you!

If you know you want a manual then that is obviously the way you should go. My two were both TT and from my experience I would do the same next time. Each to their own.

My only tip would be to wait until you find one with the best interior. Paint swirls and minor exterior marks can be machine polished back to new cheaply, but bringing the leather/etc. back to new is very expensive.

Good luck and enjoy the hunt smile

For me the 997.1 turbo manual has the same appeal as the 996, but a much better interior and more classic Porsche look at the front.
I agree but probably not the best thread to express it on smile

dopsonj - FWIW you don't have a small Ali pack (Ali finish to central vent slats and 3 part dash strip, and binnacle), you have the leather and Ali handbrake and gear lever, which is a different option

OP in your shoes I'd up your budget a bit if poss. True cost of a car is what you lose in depreciation. Don't think you'd lose much on either of these especially the first one - its been for sale for a while so pretty sure they'd knock a fair wack off.

That top one is very nice although stupid price to reflect garage queen mileage, paying premium for low mileage increases depreciation if you plan on driving the thing IMHO.

It has the natural leather cost option in dark grey - don't worry about this "grey" as it is a very nice dark shade (near black) rather than the undesirable light grey standard leather option.

Ok pantybeater, you have been on the step all night, you can come off, and pull your trousers up now
you have been proper spanked
Spanked? I've wasted enough time replying to your moronic posts. The only person who has been 'spanked' is you, like all other threads you reply to on PH, you end up being called an embarrassment by multiple people.

Enough time spent on you, oxygen thief.

Back on topic - Judder apologies for digressing from your original thread, best of luck with the hunt

Adam I disagree in the late 50s thats a fantastic buy. People are paying £100k + for new Caymans FFS. Unlike you I'd bid £57-8k for it if I wanted a 996 turbo and probably end up owning it. I paid list plus options for a turbo and for many years it was my daily snotter and no doubt its worth 10p now with over 70k miles. Who cares? Having said that you could buy that X50 and add 3-5k miles a year and lose very little if bought right. I actually prefer the lower miles black turbo they have but OP does not want a black turbo. If anyone has listened to the naysayers over the last few years they would be the poorer for it. Older Porsches have virtually outperformed every other investment out there over the last few years. 996 turbos are cheap comparatively and arguably the best turbo ever made according to people like Harris. That lad knows his Porsches...

hang on - its £64k! for £57k I would have say price is about right for a dealer car but not at all stupid smile
but the point I was making was better a £50k car with 40k miles than a £64k car with 20k miles

Harris likes 997 too winkhttp://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/porsche/911/fi...

Its been for sale for ever which means it may be a little optimistically priced even in the current market. I'm pretty sure £57-58k would buy her. Personally I think the right money on the car even in the current market is £55k but try and find another one so if I was looking for a 996 turbo this or their black 996 turbo is the one I'd buy. One owner, low miles, proper history in an unusual blue.

Worth a read below. I agree with most of what he says. First drive he was impressed with 997t but after that he went off it a bit.

Hi Jim - thanks for the reply.

Black is out at request from the co-pilot, but I might be able to swing it for the perfect car, so let me get in touch just in case!

now on those terms we can agree sir smile

already read that, I respect Harris, and his opinion and like both short articles, also don't doubt the 996 is slightly purer as older = purer for pretty much ever car ever

Not a criticism but human nature to me means he could only be 100% if he owned the 997 like he did the 996, we are always naturally rose-tinted on the cars we own

What on earth is undesirable about it? I talk to lots of Porsche guys and it always stands out as
desirable. Its better than Blue, Graphite Grey is cool though, and as mentioned lots of people don't want the
Black, in the absence of many choices I would not discount the right car because it was Grey so that's a
touch misleading. Caramel yes, Blue yes, however Grey is safe and appeals to many Adam B.
