While in OPC earlier today helping spec a car for a relative I couldn't help take an extra look at a 991. I have always been a sucker for lairy paint and buckets (not the usual spec you ever see second hand on a non GT / RS) Trying to keep the options (and price down) I configured a yellow one with black buckets and the price isn't quite as bad as I expected, especially considering the fairly unique spec.

In reality what are the buckets like comfort wise and day to day practicality, especially for 7+9 yr olds who would have to clamber in the back occasionally?

The plan would be to get one as a keeper hence getting the correct spec and any knock to resale not top of my agenda.

I've got a yellow 911 with carbon buckets and speed yellow belts and it looks great imo The buckets are superb (we've got them on a Cayman R too).
They are not adjustable in height or recline - just manual forward/backward and sufficient seatback tilt forward for rear access. The seat belts thread through the side squabs so rear entry requires you move the belts a bit too.
That said they are very comfortable even for long journeys and hold you really well for track use. I wasn't sure at first compared to the adaptive sports seats, but now I'm glad we went for them, they are far more supportive where needed.
Getting in and out is a bit less easy, especially if you are short legged and close to the steering wheel, but you can easily slide them back and forth.
Apparently mine are also heated when required (didn't think this was an option at one stage)

If you want it as a "luxury" GT car then maybe the softies are more apporpriate - for a sports car it's the buckets all day long.

I have the same buckets in my 991 GTS and Spyder. I personally wouldn't spec a car without them. They're superbly comfortable and offer excellent support. No brainer for me.

I love buckets in a 911 and would always spec them. Unfortunately currently do not have a 911.

Got buckets in my BGTS, probably my most fave option, wouldn't spec a Porsche without them now unless I *had8 to be able to get a child seat in the front. Driving a Porsche without then now always feels less special and I feel like I'm sliding out of the seat on corners. It's exacerbated by the fact that my 993 also seems to have some sort of seat option which is like a regular seat but with massive side support so also does an awesome job of holding you in place even on track.

Thank you very much sounds very positive! Can they be retro fitted if I bought a used 991 or would it be cost prohibitive
As a new option it is 2.5k however as a replacement part I would think it is at least double?

I have folding buckets in my 991 GT3 - no idea whether the ones you are referring to are the same?

I find them supremely comfortable and supportive for long journeys but, as explained above, they have no height or backrest adjustment, so I think this is very dependent on your size and shape.

Try before you buy, is my advice!

OEM from Porsche they're about double from memory, but Design 911 have these:

So yes, spec them with the car if you want them.

Not sure they suit the character of the car, really. Are you sure they wont look and feel a bit silly?

If you drive with any degree of enthusiasm then they'll suit the character of the car.

Go for it! I think it will be a very desirable and rare spec in years to come.

As another poster mentioned - for kids getting in the back it's easy other than paying attention not to trip on the belts on the way through.

Actually surprised how comfortable buckets are, drove Sweden-London over two days in my 996 and the seats were fine. I'd expect 991 buckets to be much more comfy again.

I love the buckets in my GTS and wouldn't be without them now. I did notice when the 991.2 was first released you wasn’t able to spec the bucket seats but I can see that now an option.

They just need to hurry up with the duck tail option.biggrin

According to this they can be fitted for £4217 http://www.total911.com/upgrade-your-used-porsche-...

looking on Tquipment it isn't listed, if available would certainly make a 12 plate 991 for high 40 / low 50's an interesting proposition.
