Couldn't see myself buying a 997 if it wasn't the 4.0, but appreciate they are well out of price range. Aside from that, 991.2 GT3 seems like a more sensible acquisition when the time comes.

That will be the trigger for price realignment amongst modern classic 911s.

But then the 991 GT3 is very tech laden with rear steer etc. Some people want and will argue all day that old is best and more pure.

The 996 and 997 GT3 will always be a good long term investment in my book and don't forget the metzger!

I agree, it is not only the manual transmission that makes these cars attractive. Not sure I would buy a 997.2 GT3 over a 991.2 GT3 at similar money. RS possibly a different story.

They are IMHO the best Porsche that you can buy. The true culmination of everything that made all of the GT3's epic, in one car.

I'd beg to differ they are the best. That's some claim!

I did say IMHO - but... Go on then what's your call on the best Porsche you can buy.

I based my claim on...

Tech - just enough
Feels like a 911 - yup
Availability - not unobtainable
Speed - it's plenty quick enough
Size - not too big to hustle on a B road
Style - it's not too in your face - even in green

As always, it will be what a person owns or wants to sell not what he wants to buy. biggrin

I'm looking at these too over the coming months as i think possibly the best 911 ever made, for me anyway.

....
Out of interest, what is a good spec for one of these? Is PCCB considered a must have? Personally I wouldn't want PCCB.

Leather dash and door tops
Sport Chrono
front lift?
Carbon interior / rear section of console

What else is there of importance?
a bloody great warranty..having witnessed an owner detonate his engine

FWIW , I genuinely don't think the 991.2 GT3 in manual will dent the 997.2 RS - it may initially , but not over time .

IMHO , it's very much of its time , the last of a breed of a very special type of divers car (ignoring the 4.0) As others have said , the engine , chassis , steering make it feel really very special indeed . I imagine that the 997 will feel very real , very raw in comparison to the 991 - but who knows this may not be the case - time will tell ??

It's something to be experienced.

I can only imagine what a Carerra GT would feel like ...............

Think a 7.2 RS on crack cocaine and that gets you somewhere there imo....

I'm inclined to agree. They're likely to be quite different cars.

A stunning car, once I got it going after stalling a couple of times due to the tiny magnesium clutch. One of the best engine notes ever heard and if the roof is off it is the most visceral experience you can imagine.

I hate to sound unnecessarily pedantic...but the cgt has a carbon ceramic clutch (which can indeed be a pain to use off a standing start). It has mag wheels (and various other bits made out of magnesium) but not the clutch.

Second would be 73 RS

Yeah but for most people those fall in the unobtainable due to cost category, even if in theory you could readily purchase one..... And I am still thinking about selling all my posessions to buy a CGT, but then there won't be any money left to use it as intended.

Well thats always going to be a gamble really. I've never been one for over insuring myself but I agree, I would consider it on a 7.2 RS but then maybe not!
The chances of it going pop are probably very small considering i wouldn't be tracking it.
