I have a 2009 997 with factory PSE. I know I can disconnect the relay in the engine compartment. This allows the PSE to be permanently on, and take away the drive by muting. My question is,is it possibile to leave this relay connected but to alter the vacuum pipework in some way so i get the full soundtrack at all speeds and throttle positions but still turn it off for early am starting.

You can put a switch in the wire that takes the 12v feed to solenoid, this will turn it on and off regardless of your speed, I have done this to mine and located the new switch under the handbrake

I have heard of people bypassing the PSE switch itself so you use the OE switch instead of a new one, I had a brief look at this and it was a lot more complicated so I gave it a miss.

After many years of lurking on Pistonheads I have finally written something! You can get a switch to do this from Carnewal for 175 Euros. http://carnewal.com/products/P87/p97084/PSE-Manual...

On the 996 there is a relay that controls the speed control on the exhaust removing tab A on the relay prevents the exhaust going quiet. You can still manually control the exhaust with the fitted switch. Hopefully the 997 is wired up in the same way.

Info is found on pistonheads and on renlist.

Thanks everyone.
Here's how to do it be knobbling the relay for any one who is interested.

Remove PSE cutout in 2 minutes, no tools required
Description: Remove cutout, no side effects
This is not the first PSE cutout removal modification, but i am sure this is the easiest one, without any side effects. This is a VERY easy to do modification, no tools required. It took me 2 minutes.

Look under the dashboard for the PSE relay. Above the fuse box, you will find the different relays. The PSE relay has a sticker "abgasklappen". It is located on the most top left. Pull out this relay.

Open this relay by pushing two small screwdrivers in between the relay connector and the cover. The connector will come out together with a small pc board.

Now we want to prevent the speedometer signal reaching the µcontroller chip. The information comes trough pin 1 on the connector. ( connector pin's are numbered ). At the PC board side you will see that pin 1 goes to a small (blue) capactor, and a small (orange colored) diode. Cut this small diode. ( i first tried to de-solder the diode, but the board received an epoxy coating, meaning all components are sticked to the board ) If ever you want to "undo" this mod, just solder a diode 1N4148 back in place (cathode or black stripe towards pin 1).

Now close the relay, and put it back in the original position.

Start your car and give it a try! Tadaa, cutout is gone !

I had a switch installed that allowed me to keep the exhaust always open or always closed in my 7.2 GT3. That was a bad idea. In the rev range where also the open exhaust closes temporarily, the engine produces a nastry drone. So I reverted back to the original set-up.

Not sure how the stock engines behave but on a GT3 I would stay away from doing this.

Hi ROB996

To be honest I don't know. I only have experience with a 996. Have a look for a relay on the 6 they are on a panel above the fuses. Your hand book will tell you where they are on the 7.

Interesing
The Carnewal version doesn't involve fitting extra switches or running wires etc though
Mine will be coming up for sake in a few days if anyone is interested
