997 Gen 2 iPod connection
Discussion
Afternoon,
I have a 2010 997 Gen 2 and a little confused with the iPod connection in the car.
In the centre console I have a socket for AUX, USB & iPod and the car came with a Y-cable that slots into USB and iPod cable. I purchased a 30pin to lighting cable to enable use for my iPhone 6.
On connection the iPhone will charge but the PCM is not seeing the iPhone as a media device to play music.
I've tried a little research but not found a solution.
Someone did suggest:
Info > Option > select PCM and cycle through menu until I see device selection.
I only get so far but no choice to find device / select iPod.
Car is using System version V1.41
TIA
Gareth

I don't think from memory that the iPhone 6 is compatible as a media device. I connect my iPhone 6 via Bluetooth using one of these

Shows up as a Bluetooth device on your phone. Use the AUX on PCM and you have to control/play the music from your phone rather than using PCM. Basically the 997 becomes a bluetooth speaker!
Would love to hear of a solution that is more integrated!

It's an utter ripoff but Porsche got caught out by the Apple licensing...the 997.2 connection ONLY supports iPods...not ANY kind of iPhone.
Best alternative is to buy a big memory capacity USB stick and put it in the other port. Organise music into folders and you're away, all accessed via the central screen.

Presumably this only works on later PCM? (I haven't tried it):

Are you using a proper Apple 30-pin to lightning converter?
PCM3 only has analogue input and any iPhone with a lightning socket will be digital only (unless you use the headphone socket), so you need one of the official £25+ Apple adapters with inbuilt digital-to-analogue conversion for this to work. I'm using one of these in my 997.2 and it works fine. I've tested it with an iPhone 5, 6 & 6s - you get control of the iPhone from your PCM3, you get track names on screen and can listen to streaming music etc with no problems.

No...skimped out on a cheap one.PCM3 only has analogue input and any iPhone with a lightning socket will be digital only (unless you use the headphone socket), so you need one of the official £25+ Apple adapters with inbuilt digital-to-analogue conversion for this to work. I think you're getting the picture! Don't skimp with Apple! It definitely works with an iPhone 6S and Spotify.
Here's a vid I made for someone in a similar position - hope it helps.

I had the same setup with the Y cable and 30 pin to Lightning adaptor and it worked fine on my MY2010 997.2. However in the meantime I simply got fed up with connecting the phone to a cable every time I got in the car so now use a Bluetooth adaptor. Details can be found here if interested...https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Adapter-Receive...

I did similar for connecting an Android phone to Bluetooth, and it works very well. I can't control the phone through the PCM but, since the phone holder is about 3 inches from my left hand, it's even easier and less dangerous (in terms of taking eyes off the road) than PCM controls. Agree on this, phone too big for the console and it's annoying keeping the arm rest open whilst driving.
Any other solutions people have come up with?
I still think Google Maps/Waze have better traffic info the the Porsche Sat Nav. So I would like to be able to mount and charge my phone just above the PCM screen.
Is there a 30 pin to lightning 1 metre cable that works in the same way as the aforementioned adapter?
