Intending to buy first Porsche, sub 70k miles, £20k budget, 2002 -2004, good history but very few advertised. Very few listed on PH/Autotrader, why are there so few around? Not being picky with colour, although 18" wheels and sat nav preferred, and not with the aero pack. All pointers gratefully received.

There is no Carrera S in a 996. All facelift 996 Carrera are 3.6, and there is a C4S but that has the same engine (but a wider rear end).

I had a 2003 C2 Cab from new and it was a great car yes

At the time it was by far the fastest car I had owned, it was great to drive and I loved it, shame about the interior feeling like it had been a spare part from pound land wink

Sat nav is easily retro fitted and probably better than original fitment

I have a 3.6 C4 Cab tip with all the extras, inc modern retrofit sat nav, bose, heated hard back seats. I may be interested in a sale.....I have just spent a load on it too. I was looking to turn it at the end of the summer. PM me if a C4 would float your boat.

Aside (And being un-biased rather than promoting my own car obvs) I have had a C2 and a C4 and whilst it may not be the purists choice i find the C4 a better car. I never found the rear end of the C2 that mobile in real world situations unless you were doing really silly things. My 350z was great for example for stepping out round corners and roundabouts but the C2 just wasnt as much fun as i thought it would be. Dont get me wrong its a great great drivers car and handled beautifully. The C4 really does pull you round corners and is great in the wet too - massively confidence inspiring.

Realistically if you aren't going to track it (who would track a tip cab?) then the C4 is a better ownership proposition IMHO

That doesn't quite make sense. The C4 would be less mobile at the rear than the C2, surely.

You may have been preferring the feel of the heavier front-end, perhaps?
