991.2 GT3 - Colours. Spec. Q+A. etc etc..
Discussion
Finally collected my car today...after something like 10 months of wait!
All that I can say about this wonderful car has already been written by every single PH-GT3er before...I can only confirm all : )
Exceptional car, the 4.0 is strong enough at 3-4000 rpms to make break-in period not so boring.
What is the best surprise for me, coming from a 981 Boxster GTS and having never driven 991 GT3s before (only 997s), is how agile this car is in slow and medium corners or fast direction changes.
Also much more naturally oversteering in hairpins than my Boxster was.
Strange thing about break-in period: while you UK guys have the very conservative recommendation to stay below 4000 rpm for 3000 km...we Italian have no word about run-in on our books and the dealers say “push it when it’s hot”!
Wonder if the engine is the same : )
Little complaints in these first 250 km I drove today up and down the hills:
-annoying rattle from the right door panel in the speaker/door handle area (if I push there it goes away)
-muffler resonance only at idle when the exhaust is very hot (I hear it outside the car, luckily not inside)
-some cage clonks when falling in dips and potholes (maybe normal?)
-already kissed the tarmac with the front lip and the black brake vents in a couple of uphill hairpins
Is someone experiencing the door and exhaust rattles that I have? Any thoughts?

I've owned 991.1 GT3 (1 car on steels, another with PCCB), then a 991RS, and now have a 991.2 GT3, and my view is the differences are really minimal. Yes the new engine feels stronger, but the previous iterations were hardly lacking in noise or grunt. The damping on the new car is improved, mainly due to enhancements in the PASM mapping. I've never experienced brake squeal after many thousands of hard miles, so the new car is no different in that regard.

Great review. Well done.
Have they extended the PEC circuit ? I did it last year in a point 1 and found the circuit a bit short for a GT3
Many thanks! Have they extended the PEC circuit ? I did it last year in a point 1 and found the circuit a bit short for a GT3
Seem to recollect the circuit was extended around 3 years ago.
Agree a GT3 is too fast for the circuit...as mentioned in my post.
Suits a GT4/ Spyder better imo.

I did my GT3 PEC day today. It was a bit of a washout at 3 degrees and constant rain. The tyres are a bit tricky at that temp and it wasn’t high speed fun. I’m going to try again when it’s a bit warmer. Did I mention the engine noise? Epic.
I did 160 miles today in mine on the road and more than a few squeaky bum moments. Tyres are tricky - read also as downright dangerous on some of the roads! It didn’t like changing lane on the M-way/dual carriageways and aqua planed through standing water. Nearly lost it totally coming off one roundabout. Fortunately the other lanes were clear allowing me to go sideways without hitting anyone. I wasn’t even be heavy footed as I’m still running in! LOL.Still going to take it out again tomorrow for a blast (got to run it in!) but I think I’ll book my PEC day for the spring when it’s warmer, dryer and the tyres can get some heat into them.

Shame. One of the problems of a January booking at PEC ...The weather can be poor.
Guess I was lucky on Thursday.

YesI have a gen 1 GT3 PDK too and agree they are a great package. I have always rated the PDK S in the GT3 btw and have always thought it suits the car perfectly but have a few 'manuels' including GT4 and 981 Spyder. I enjoy both gearboxes.
Sounds like I need to drive a gen 2 PDK and you (if not already) a gen 2 'manuel' and see if this influences our opinions in any way!

I was considering a GT3 manual, but a dual mass flywheel doesn’t really appeal (one of the reasons I never really fell for the GT4). Such a shame they weren’t able to engineer a single mass flywheel to work with this new engine...

I think so....I was thinking of the classic all black one but then I am also wondering about black with yellow letters.Mr.Brick said:

Congrats on your new car! Scraping in hairpins sounds like the right running in procedure Wonder if the engine is the same : )
Interesting point on the 3000 km limit. Comment of my dealer yesterday (on the continent too) when brining up that topic was "you mean, before doing proper track work?" and a puzzled face. I guess there are more GT3s in the UK that see regular track work than on the continent. Hence it might be a country specific point

Running in period applies to German speaking countries as well.Wonder if the engine is the same : )
Try having a look at page 14 before going crazy, as word of mouth comments from your dealer won’t help your pride and joy running in.
