I hear a metallic rattle at idle, only when hot, I thought it was an exhaust resonance but it’s probably the valvetrain.
The PEC gen 2 'manuel' I drove on Thursday stayed remarkably quiet irrespective of temperature and hard track use......it had covered c1500 miles. A lot quieter than my gen 1 PDK. Presumed it was largely due to the dual mass flywheel. I know 911Rs specced with smfs are very noisy at idle.I raised this point on here after the first batch of PDK cars were delivered last year.
Taffy answered by saying his gen 2 PDK was quite clattery on idle. One of the worst aspects of the gen 1 imo.
Maybe the 'manuel' cars are typically quieter....
Do you have a link to a video of a chattering PDK (gen1 or 2) or maybe Taffy has one of his car?
The noise is rather annoying, can’t understand if it’s tappets, clutch/flywheel (different from other chattering cars I know), exhaust (bypass valves vibrating).
I will return to the OP (WTF !)

Don’t think mine sounds like that but I’ll check it tomorrow. When it drops back to tick over it almost sounds like a loose heat shield rattling or something similar.Mr.Brick said:

Just read this post and need to clarify what i supposedly said last year..IIRC the only GT3 i drove last year which clattered was the 991.1GT3 ..I don't recollect the gen 2 making the same noise,in fact my new PDK GT3 doesn't seem to suffer from this affliction. The noise is rather annoying, can’t understand if it’s tappets, clutch/flywheel (different from other chattering cars I know), exhaust (bypass valves vibrating).

People's perception of what constitutes an annoying noise varies significantly and the only true acid test would be to run the gen 2 side by side with another gen 2 to get a true representation.
I advice Mr Brick to do the same on his GT3 even to discount the possibility that his ear is especially sensitive to a particular noise..Some people complain of a drone at between 2800-3000rpm which i can't pick up on.
Its quite possible that at 52 i'm starting to develop some form of hearing impairment where the side effect is i inadvertently block out noises of a certain resonance.
Edit to add..Just listened to the video and can reiterate that mine does not suffer..

I’m 49 and I block out noises of a certain resonance ,just so happens to be the frequency my wife talks at.
Its called early onset selective hearing spectrum disease which i also suffer from..Its taken me many ears of enduring endless nagging to master it..One of the few joys of getting older.. I can’t hear the 80 mhp drone as well...but my idle rattle is something that I wouldn’t accept in a 70s Bealte.
I have a date with the OP for tomorrow morning, they say it sounds like a vibrating heat shield...hope they’re right.
Will ask them to do all what they know to fix a vibrating door panel too (six years of 991 cars know so I hope they know what to do)
Not the best beginning for this much waited mk2

I've seen 3 x 991.2 GT3 with the drivers side exhaust manifold touching the engine undertray, actually resting on the shield causing an indent in the undertray and leaving witness marks on the manifold! Easily rectified by removing the cover and bending the bracket it mounts to give adequate clearance but not what you should expect to see on any new car, never mind a Porsche!I have a date with the OP for tomorrow morning, they say it sounds like a vibrating heat shield...hope they’re right.

All 3 I've seen have been whilst they have been in for Sharkwerks bypass pipes to be fitted.
Worth checking on your car....

Can’t wait to get my sharkwerks bypass fitted to my Gen1 car, delivery tomorrow, hopefully fit Wednesday, that way I won’t have to wait to use the full revs and hear the noise on the Gen2 Car when it arrives and I have to complete the running in period I can get it on the Gen 1 tunnel test ... I know what I’m like I would be too tempted, cheers Chris great service and Richard a lovely chap to deal with.
Left with UPS about 20 minutes ago! Not long now until the full-fat GT3 soundtrack is released! Thanks again for the order, Chris

Thank you Chris, very kind as usual! All 3 I've seen have been whilst they have been in for Sharkwerks bypass pipes to be fitted.

But you mean the rear diffuser for “engine undertray” ?
I checked mine in the garage (cold) and I didn’t notice contacts...
