the RS will lack the manual interaction of course ;-) read into that " involving " as PDK takes it all away from you in spades.

I love the RS though, what a car to break 7 minutes with a NA 520BHP lump.

The issue is it's an automatic, and no matter what any one says, if you want an involving sports car you want a manual, All 5 of my cars are manual cars.

RS needs the track and it needs to be driven like you stole it I would say to make that magic word "involving" to be used , ok if you are a track rat, not so great anywhere else imo.

I would not say impossible to find a flaw (nothing is that good lol ) , I can think of 3 or 4 but they are far smaller flaws than most other cars and the GT4/Spdyers.

The engine makes this new GT3 the manual adds back interaction which has been lacking in the GT3 range too long.
GT4 hit that missing gap but came with it's own flaws.

The RS plays on it's down force and PDK to give the track times. But really there is nothing like pressing a clutch and shifting that gear stick, daft as it may sound, nothing comes close to doing it yourself.
That's just your opinion, my opinion is, how can pushing a peddle and moving a stick add to driving pleasure !

Old technology should stay in old cars.

Agree ... for real driving pleasure , H pattern box , no RWS , no electronic aids , no ABS ... really feel what the car is doing . Then add that to being on the Banking in Daytona .... nice .

because it's a skill like any sport or hobby, one enjoys learning it, rather than the car doing it all for you.

you have lost involvement , it's not as easy as pressing the clutch and moving a stick, it's the skill and work load to do it and master it while Threshold braking and also nailing that turn in, it's very satisfying getting it right, over the play station cars most drive today.

If you want tech then don't buy a Porsche, Mclaren cars are the leaders in the tech and every new car they bring out is faster and has more tech.

I guess people get pleasure from owning lifestyle cars over driving them these days, no right and wrong in what people enjoy.

I don't find changing gear a skill or satisfying.

Really? There are a lot of people who can't hell-n-toe.

I totally 'get' PDK, especially the way it's been implemented on the 991 GT cars, but to say manual shifts are not a skill is a bit of a leap TBF.

The thing is I tend to look at the 'fun' factor when driving, I agree 'involvement' is a major factor but operating a clutch and gear lever is not the complete story for me anyway.
Maybe because my skill levels are lower than most but I get great enjoyment from operating the PDK in manual mode with choice of paddles or moving the lever, and being able to concentrate more on my braking and lines through a corner.
I've never thought while out for a good blast with PDK I wish I'd taken the manual, or vice versa for that matter, I really do have great fun in both.

Exactly where i am. I went manual on my GT3, but really thought long and hard about PDK. Different enjoyment for different reasons- I need an RS allocation to cover all the bases- fat chance!

^this. Personally I'm not as dogmatic about operating a gear lever and clutch pedal as some. While I agree the lack of a manual gearbox takes away some involvement in driving, that can be made up by other aspects of the car and I have definitely found some paddle shifter cars (considerably) more interesting to drive than even what is considered a good a manual one. The 9X1 cars for me are a bit of a case of this, imo they sit somewhat uneasily with a manual box as they are very very modern cars with a lot of electronic systems working in the background, shoehorning a manual box into one doesn't turn it into an 'analogue' driving experience at all.

Late last night when hooning in the dark in my GT3.2 PDK i was going up and down gears using the paddled for the sheer hell of it..In this scenario would a manual have been more fun..?......NO WAY .!!
And i say that as someone who loves a good manual as much as a good dual clutch box..

When it comes to Gearbox, buy what you like .
It’s not a right or wrong decision ,there are advantages and disadvantages to both.
I’ve always bought manuals, but went pdk and no regrets, there hasn’t been a single
Moment where I thought I would be having more
Fun if I had a manual, and I don’t feel any less involved in the driving process than compared to say the gt4 I had before.

I hope it wasn't intended as such, but that sounds incredibly condescending.

While the manual box is great... the latest variant of PDK is absolutely incredible. The feeling and sounds it makes are akin to a pneumatic sequential at times... feels like driving a racing car on the road... you don't get that with a manual.

You shouldn't talk about things like this in absolutes... it's an opinion, not a fact... and I prefer the PDK... and I'll be happy to kick your butt on any race track some time hehe

So can I ask other pdk owners, are you getting a clicking noise ?? I have been assuming it is the second gear changing gear ,but noone else has confirmed or denied this.

Not that I've been able to detect... but might be going together with the other noises...

Agreed...I think the powertrain of the GT3 is far better suited to a PDK gearbox, I don't understand anyone who says it isn't involving

There is a mechanical clicking noise ,usually when I lift off the throttle or when I engage the throttle ,do not ask me why but my gut says it’s the gearbox .
There is a lot of noise overall but this is quite distinct .
I notice it at lower speeds ,but then again the engine and road noise drown out everything at higher speeds .

I don't think people think PDK is inert.... its just that some people think a manual box is more involving.

The idea of a naturally aspirated rear wheel drive car that revs to 9000 rpm mated to a manual gear box makes me rather more excited than it should do...for whatever reason I didn't want a PDK car....to the extent that told my OPC I only wanted a .2 if it was manual.

I am about to get Macan Turbo PP as a daily though....which obviously has a PDK gearbox. And my wife's Boxster is PDK.
So we're equal opportunity employers smile
