Managed to turn a 20 min return journey to my daughters gymastics class into a 50 mile drive this evening. Half open throttle and max 4K rpm but blimey it’s still got a bit. I absolutely love everything about the car and almost wish I’d gone for PCM delete! Just love all those small noises, love the feel of the smaller steering wheel and that gear change is just sensational. Can’t wait to be able to start stretching its legs.

Can’t see me ever wanting anything more hardcore or quicker.
My feelings too! You wait when you first open the taps. Made me swear first time I did it - oh, that engine!

Yes, the GT3 at 6/10 is probably going as fast as your Spyder is at 8/10. This is the issue afflicting all very fast cars and why I enjoy my classics so much. They have just the right performance for the road imo.

Having said that I feel the GT3 is still an exciting drive at any speed and this is where Porsche have really succeeded. I. E in creating involvement and charisma at normal speeds. Yes, you have to be at truly insane speeds to get that adrenaline rush because the car is just so capable whereas your Spyder will give you that hit at maybe a more sane level.

Aren't we lucky though to have such a choice
The choice is only buying older cars which are getting crazy money , and most people don't get the choice to buy the new ones unless paying crazy money on overs !!

So I guess we could say as owners we are lucky to have and try these cars.

I always disagree that modern cars are exciting at normal speeds though it's just not the case.

As you probably know; i also own a 991.2GT3 PDK and a recently bought 981 Spyder and i agree with your sentiments 100%..The 981 Spyder to me is a more honest and balanced car than the GT4 i once owned..A large part of this is i perceive the Spyder to be better than i expected, whereas the GT4's expectations were a lot higher and in reality the engine and gearing were slightly underwhelming and took the shine out of the car..
The Spyder in contrast has no pretensions on being something it isn't hence when it turns out to be at least as quick as the GT4 and with the top down the feeling of speed is magnified along with more exploitable grip..
My GT3's performance is otherworldly in comparison to the Spyder and can never be fully exploited on public roads, however when i'm in the right mood it offers thrills even the Spyder can't match. I feel the GT3 and Spyder make a pretty much perfect garage companions.
I'm hopeful that next year i'll have a Black WP RS to replace my GT3 which will be an even better match with my Spyder..
Porsche are on a roll right now and long may it continue..

Yes definitely. Be interested to hear real world comparisons between RS and cooking GT3. Not sure it will be as good a road car tbh. If you will use it on track that's a different matter of course. Lovely thing though. I'm currently waiting at Exeter OPC and they have a stunning GR Gt2Rs with WP. Glorious!!

Perfect weather for enjoying your Spyder too!

For me (and my roads) the GT3 is already borderline for being too hardcore for the road.

RS tweaks would push it over the edge..... although the titanium exhaust could be worth a look smile

I agree with you...Put an aftermarket Akrapovic Ti exhaust and BMC intake air filters on the GT3 and you'll have identical power/torque and poke to the RS IMO...

Very true I been saying this exact thing for the past two years.

Great car that the GT4 is especially at the money, essentially it is let down by it's not GT engine.

981 Spyder in contrast is true to form and for road use at least as rapid and involving.

lol A sharkwerks bypass will net some BHP and far cheaper, any one know who makes a set of Ti tips I hate the new Porsche style back tips, they just look old after a week !!!! As I bet the RS OEM Ti tips price is eye watering.

Also agreed. I got a lot of stick for disrespecting the GT4's engine but as time went on more people are of this opinion. The package is great for reliable track work, but if you want something a bit thrilling it's a let down. The chassis is so good you want an engine to really push it, but unfortunately it doesn't.

I've not driven a Spyder as I don't like convertibles, but I can see how it would be a winner.

that does not make you right though lol

I think it's a false argument !!

expectations does not make either car worse than the other lol it's comic to even say such rubbish ;-)

Call the GT4 A R then and then try and talk the talk now having lower expectations from the name !

Saying I think the Spyder is better than expected over saying I think the GT4 was not as good as expected does not make the Spyder a better car !!!

The GT4's a far better car to drive, the sus is miles ahead, the brakes are miles ahead, the Electronics are off the RS and miles ahead !!!
the bloody engines are the same :-) it's a far better driving machine.

So the GT4 is a better car, it's black and white, now if people like the Spyder more because it exceeded expectations that's great, it does not make it a better car in any way shape or form though.

It's just a preference ! the 981 Spyder has more flaws than a GT4 imo and having the basic electrics is a let down.

All the flaws about the engine and gearing carry across.

The issue is now most of us here have the new GT3 so it's makes the GT4 to own pointless and a better match to the GT3 is a Spyder, all though I would take the older one every day of the week.

Keep this thread alive guys, or is there any other thread to discuss .2 GT3 purchase/Q&A/spec ?

Having seen cars registered in March '18 or even unregistered in sale...I wonder if OPCs had some extra late allocation given and they've decided to buy themselves to then put cars on sale with premium.

Said that, wrt price, can someone explain me why a .2 GT3 is supposed to hold a price >160k in the next few years if a .1 GT3s are currently sat at £130?
