Drove my car home in a storm this afternoon...standing water all over the place and pretty bad visibility. Not a pleasant experience! Saw one car which had hit a small flood on the A41 and ended up in the verge.

I’m 500 miles into my ownership and whilst running it in is frustrating it’s also a pretty good thing to do IMHO. It’s a car that gives huge confidence in the dry and the exact opposite in the wet!

Have my PEC session at the end of the week on what is forecast to be a wet day. Hopefully it’s a little bit damp rather than wet which would be a great learning experience,

mates got one, I like it as transport it's a very nice car, as I stated was going to do a vid vs the GT3, but don't see the point now, you guys know the cars well enough so **** it, I'll keep the results to myself. I have had enough of the hype and bullst on all models here now to bother.

I actually agree with his comment. I’ve come from a 997RS to a .2 GTS, and felt exactly the same- it looks like a 911, but drove like a posh golf! Nothing wrong that mind you, unless you were looking for something a little more engaging... And I also preferred my clubsport golf and would choose that for track and B road blasts over the GTS!

Is the manual GT3 much different to the GTS?

But you can say that - you’ve actually been there, and done it. It’s OK to be rude about a car you’ve actually owned.

BTW the manual GT3 is VERY different to the GTS. Not so much faster, just very raw and very loud. It is a special occasion car. It gets LOTS of attention as well. Big issue I have with the GT3 is that I can’t take the family out!
This is EXACTLY what I’m looking for ! I’ve got other cars to “take the family out”, this ones for ME!! Only question now is; .1RS or .2GT3

If PDK I'd go .1 RS - nothing between the two performance wise but the RS looks more hardcore.

However, if its between a manual .2 GT3 or a .1 RS I'd go manual 991.2 GT3 every day of the week (unless it's purely for track work - then I'd go .1 RS)

I've had a 991.1 RS b4 the manual .2 GT3 and I haven't given the RS a second thought since getting the GT3 - and if I still had it and was told one had to go, I'd drop the RS without giving it a moments thought to keep the GT3.

Hope that helps smile

Edited to add : come to think of it - Ignoring any financial temptation ; I wouldn’t swap my .2 GT3 Manual for a .2 GT3 RS even if someone said you can swap for free .

As a more understated, socially acceptable everyday Porsche my GT silver was the best Porsche i've ever owned..It was a staggeringly effective car at overtaking without scaring other road users..I could not detect any lag whatsoever...it must have a 'secret sauce' pre-spool anti-lag system fitted..!

On a track however the GT3 is way better, a lot of this attributed to the superior MPSCs and vastly more powerful steel brakes..I burnt through a pair of rear P zeros and brake pads at Silverstone whereas the GT3s brake/tyre combo still felt fresh..Put MPSCs and the same upgraded 410/410 PCCBs on both and i bet the GTS will be as quick on track..

One caveat is the GTS needs RWS to perform to its potential, otherwise it understeers on every corner taken flat-out..A GTS coupe with RWS and PCCBs to me is the perfect everyday Porsche..I drove both manual and PDK and liked both equally so its purely down to personal taste..
Have you considered a Targa/Cabrio GTS as i think they could be be even more enjoyable as a road car in either manual or PDK..The RWS also makes it more wieldy and nimble with less steering input required at low speeds...makes parking easier..
I'm sure the GTS is a cracking car and although I've not owned or driven one the difference to a GT3 must be more than just tyres and brakes. Otherwise the GT department are just wasting there time! Turbo S lap times around Anglesey are very close to the GT3 iirc but not sure how near a GTS would be...

I drove my OPC’s 991.2 GTS demo for a day. Buckets, PCCB’s, Manual, RWS so as close as you could come to a GT3 spec. Admittedly I only drove it 150 miles but it didn’t grab me like the GT3 does but I did love driving it. Maybe it is quicker but the GT3 is more of a “sensory overload” and to me feels like a much more intense driving experience.

Been down to N Wales this weekend to enjoy the car and the great Welsh roads. Trouble is the local councils on numerous excellent roads, have installed average speed cameras and dropped many speed limits to 50 cop
Bloody spoil sports. Despite that, did manage to enjoy exploring the car up to 4K rev limit with the occasional 6K blip.
500 miles on now over 2 weekends and loving it!

I pretty much concur with your sentiments...Despite both being equally brilliant to their intended briefs, the GT3 is on another planet in terms of noise and 'sensory overload'..

I'm slowly but surely developing a rather obsessive 'want' for an either Black or GT silver Touring..This would IMO give me the best of both worlds, on one hand subtle stealth and on the other hand the full 9K warp speed only a GT3 can provide..

Like a few of us I had the opportunity to spec a Touring and didn’t...and honestly don’t regret it. Some of them look fantastic but they’re the ones with decals or PTS like Dr S’s fantastic example.

The black Touring I saw last week did nothing for me.

It’s a GT3...it needs and deserves to look special!

Its quite possible that you have less trouble with boy racers where you live..My RY GT3 is akin to waving a red flag to a bull..! I just thought maybe a more subtle Touring would fly under the radar more..
I watched a couple of JWW's U tube videos last night, and in the one where he tracked it around Silverstone showed how good a driver he is..He also made a good video of why he chose PDK over Manual..

some people might argue that the GT3 touring does look special, it's just not as obvious, which is to a lot of people who ticked that option box the appeal. the stance is there, the intent, just no rear wing.

don't like decals on a road car, bad enough on my old GT3 RS for attracting the wrong kind of interest/attention.

each to their own and all that jazz.

I went back to a GT4 quite quickly after having a 991 GTS. Its an amazing every day car but not an occasion like a GT car and certainly very different to the new GT3. Worlds apart in terms of raw feel...

I'm lucky that so far I've had no negative attention/boy racers....only positive comments. If I did get that kind of attention it would definitely put me off. My car tends to spend it's time on quiet country roads though so doesn't come across the boy racers too much.

Talking of videos I would definitely recommend the Motor Trend Head to Head video which has both the PDK and Manual GT3 and the AMG GT R. Jethro Bovingdon does the road sections who I really like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSwOx3ZsJ8M

That preview vid makes it look like it's all on track but most of it is reviewing the cars on the road....it's about the only review I've seen comparing the two and does go into a bit of detail about how the diff's change the characteristics of the two cars on the road.
It's behind a paywall but you can get 14 days free access. Worth a look in my opinion !

There were some posts about Chris Harris's new gold wheels on his Touring....he's posted on his "social media channels" https://www.instagram.com/harrismonkey/?hl=en . Appears he's treated himself to a set of Manthey Magnesium Wheels....wonder what they cost ?!

I think they come to the free section after 2 months, it must be due,

there was another one yesterday for PDK vs manual with a firm manual win
I thought at the start it was going to poo poo the manual.

he did start with "the much-hyped stickshift option for the second-generation 991 GT3 isn’t the right transmission for this car"

cost is £20k for the wheels , don't curb a mag wheel !!!

I do like the £7.5k BBS forged wheels better and they are also ultra lightweight.
