Cool story! And I couldn't agree with your last sentence enough - it's what they are for! I've done 50% of the mileage since January, that the first owner of my car did in the first 2.5years of ownership! I know it was part of his small collection, but still - how could he NOT drive it more?? Amazing thing.
The wheels just kept on rotating, I guess….and here is how I ran up the mileage. For me, the experiences were worth far more than some artificial mileage limiting. I respect the decision of others but I need the adventure.First two weeks:
Day 1.6km on car at pickup at factory and drove 10Km immediately on pickup to have it to have it wrapped
Day 2; 300Km..into Zell am See Austria- historical home of the Porsche family ,and where they are buried. Ferdinand and Ferry Porsche and their wives are interred in a small chapel beside the house. There is an occasional Porsche Club meeting here sponsored by Dr Wolfgang Porsche which I attended. . He kindly signed the car.

Day 3: 600Km Rally
[
Day 6 Back to Germany - up through towns big and smalll…Leipzig Dresden, Wolfsburg
Day 7 3900Km..inro Hamburg
Day 8 New car meets the very first Porsche..the 1939 Typ 64
Day 10 down to Nurburgring for a few days to run both the Nordschleife and the F1 track. Over to Sachsenring after that
Day 14 into Berlin..stay at Adlon, run over to Berlin Wall
Day 15 drop off car….5500KM and only two weeks old.
Six weeks later:
Arrives in Canada in November and re-registered
Anoly about another 200km…off to winter storage.
Spring 2016
Porsche Club Rally in Toronto..winner
July 2016 Porsche Parade in Vermont..another 2000Km
placed second in Rally
Variety of small events till end of October, then Stoage
Spring 2017: serviced and inspected ready for this year's adventures…who knows what will happen?
My old 997.1 has 35,000 km on it and has had more adventures…and in the ned, if that costs depreciation I do not care. Its not a financial investment for me. We are all different.
In the end if my car is worth less, or even a lot less I just don't care. I have done this with every car and will do it with others in the future. Not interested in cars as investments.

RDMcG your post is probably the best post I have read on PH; Ferry and the gang at Zell am See would be incredibly proud and honored for your visit, truly an inspirational journey. In fact I wasn't aware of the Zell am See Porsche connection (I knew they do a big show there, I just didn't know about the history). So a massive thank you for sharing your wonderful post and pictures and hopefully it will inspire others to follow suit. I know it has for me and will now look at making a trip to Zell myself this year on the back of your post.
Thanks once again
Thanks once again
I was just thinking. With a few GT3's for sale (some for a while) and Porsche keep releasing new models will the market therefore become "flooded" in relative terms? I think there are a dozen 991 GT3's & GT3 RS's at Official dealers. With the new GT3 being released it won't be long before they are on the market for sale. Also with the new GT3 RS & GT2 in development that will be more cars on the market and so on and so on.....

I have bought a 997 and 2 Macans over the last 10 years from the same dealer. I have an LOI in for a GT4.2 but no idea if I will get one. I ask every 5-6 months but not really getting much info so doubt it tbh.
I don't think there's any clear info on a GT4.2, just the occasional internet predictions. It's probably some way off. But, don't blame the dealers. I think they are specifically told to avoid 'speculation' about what, or when, this or that may, or may not, happen, but to await the official announcements.

Whilst different OPCs have different allocation strategies as to who gets a car, there is one thing which would guarantee someone definitely NOT getting a car and that would be to use a element of blackmail such as this.
Many have tried the line 'if you allocate me a GT build slot I will buy 3 new mainstream cars from your OPC'.
Clearly the 3 new mainstream Porsches have to be bought first and even then there is no guarantee of being offered a GT car build slot.
Lifes a gamble...:
It works, you just have to put the money where your mouth is. Many have tried the line 'if you allocate me a GT build slot I will buy 3 new mainstream cars from your OPC'.

Totally depends on the OPC/ their franchise's policy...some OPC's that won't get you very far on the list at others you could have a proper shout. Whichever it is they won't say anything until the car is launched. There's a bloke I know who bought a 918 and has had allocations of GT4, GT3RS and R and buys "mainstream" Porsche cars and has been told he's not getting a a GT3 because they have to give other people a shout....he's not happy! His OPC is in the same dealer group as mine and they told me the same thing...people who have had allocations of recent GT cars are not getting a GT3. That policy is totally right and should be Porsche GB policy...OPC's should not be giving repeat allocations to the same customers whatever they buy.
