Hi
Im new to this, been having a great read over the last few days.
I've just purchased a 2S 997.2 manual (think thats the right lingo). Its got the standard exhaust set up. Any recommendations of a decent exhaust system, I priced up the Akropovic and it was the best part of £5k.
Simple question I suppose, loudest sound for the cheapest money?

Many Thanks

Cheib

Long thread here

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=143...

Long story short....PSE is £2.5k rerofit and not loud enough for most. Lots of people (including those with PSE) fit an exhaust Bypass. I thinK Sharkwerks were the first and now a few others have copied them. People who have the Sharkwerks or similar really rate it.

Common complaint on 997.2 as they are much quieter than the 997.1 cars.

Even with the PSE the car is too quiet and not at all 911 like so as mentioned above the best solution for the money is a bypass pipe which removes the silencer across the back of the car (not the large kidney silencers). On my GTS which had the PSE standard the Sharkwerks bypass pipe sounded great.

We still stock the Sharkwerks and have sold lots with great feedback. Also stock the Milltek bypass pipe which comes in cheaper as UK made and not sensitive to currency fluctuations like the imported ones have been.

ABP are based in Shavington, 15 minutes from Alsager and we carry both the Sharkwerks and the Milltek bypass pipes in stock. They can also install either option.

Get the centre silencer bypass done first (because it's relatively cheap) and then decide if you also want to fit a PSE (which is expensive). Instead of a PSE you could also try one of Gert Carnewal's boxes.

I have PSE + bypass and to be honest the sound is better with the PSE off, better tone and less raspy but quieter obviously.

Picked up a 997.2 C2s myself back in November and considering the same. Sound isnt as bad as I had feared / read but it needs more.

Does anyone know the cost of the sharkwerks bypass in the UK?

Install looks to be quite easy, seems like you can do it yourself without too much trouble. Anyone installed it themselves?

How much is it just for the bypass inc fitting out of interest? Do the Miltek or Sharkwerks sound different/better. PM me price if you prefer.

My H&S bypass cost £670 all in: £360 for pipes, £200 for fitting (which to be honest is quite expensive but I didn't want to bother with delivery, risking damage in transit etc.) and VAT.

Was just reading their site actually. Seems decent value as I assume the sharkwerks is probably more than that for the part alone.

How do you find the H&S? Do you know if its basically a copy of the sharkwerks design?

ive been quoted £1100 for the Sharkwerks fitted and £600 for the Milltek... thought both decent prices to be fair. Will probably go with the Sharkwerks as it seams tried and tested.

It's awesome biggrin I also got the Carnewal remote to get rid of the stupid speed related cutout so now I'm finally happy with the sound. Shame that it takes a PSE + bypass + remote to get the 997.2 to sound as it should!

The bypass is simply replacing the centre silencer with two straight pipes so as long as the quality is good (which H&S are as they have a good reputation) then I don't think there will be any difference.

I'm a 997.2 C4S owner with a non-PSE system and I fitted the Sharkwerks bypass pipe and i'm really happy with the sound difference. The Sharkwerks pipe is really good quality too and very simple to DIY (if you have the right tools, especially the moon spanner).

The upside of pse is that's it's quite neighbourly friendly, when I had my old c2 with 1.5 inch bypass pipes I sometimes wished I could of turned it off when going out at 7 in the morning.

Good choice thumbup
Do you have PSE? If so I'd take up the offer of £80 for the Carnewal remote!

Is it easy enough to go back to standard later on if you have fitted the H&S bypass pipe?
