Moose, you make the mistake to presume that Demon thinks before posting...! The sheer ineptitude of comparing 2 graphs, with different units on the Y-axis (lb/ft v Nm) brightens my day no end...! The clue is in the fact that overall power has increased by 25Bhp, or 5%, wouldn't take a genius to establish that its unlikely that torque is up by 50% in the same engine...

both plots/dyno's were take out of the Porsche brochure !! it may brighten your day , but I got the graphs direct from Porsche books ! why we have to now conform to NM is daft. The clue is in the fact that overall power has increased by 25Bhp, or 5%, wouldn't take a genius to establish that its unlikely that torque is up by 50% in the same engine...
we all make silly mistakes, I own upto mine (no one else here ever does), Why make a big thing of it, the graph on the 3.8 has a massive dip before it starts to rise over the 4.0 the dyno plot in the Porsche book did not have scales on it ! and both scales start at different numbers, simple error which I owned upto in a few minutes. I did think it was odd, but yes engaged keyboard and not brain.
Even so the new GT3 will still pull harder every where. And I at least made the effort to find the plots from both cars and post them for people to see.
I could have deleted my posts but no one gets 100% in every test :-p It's like being kicked in the balls when you are down here lol

To be fair both graphs were legible and sure scales etc were different but it doesn't need a lot of intelligence to take away the information. I thought they were useful comparisons, just needed a little work to make sure I knew what I was looking at.
The huge difference for me (and would be obvious from the seat of the pants dyno on the road) is that missing dip in torque. You'd expect an extra 400ccs to make a difference low down.
I think it'll just feel that much more eager from lower and a little bit of extra buzz right at the top too. Definitely worthwhile improvements IMHO.
So what if the graphs weren't presented perfectly?

I can't remember in whose video review of the "R" it was but someone like Harris/Catchpole when they were reviewing it said the only minor, minor criticism of the car would be that it "lacked a little" at the top end. Maybe the new engine delivers just that bit more...from what AP has said (pinch of salt) it's as much about how it delivers the power and how quickly it revs rather than the numbers. Bieldside said:
Took my GT3 up to Cambridge and back yesterday - 200 miles round trip
And I am thinking how can you improve on this car ? Such a great car to drive, it just does it all so well
I don't track it, I've got comfort seats , leather dash , leather steering column .............all the wrong bits !!!
What is the new one going to do ???? It'll be scary
It'll be a wee bit better, a few percent. But yeah, emperors new clothes basically. And I am thinking how can you improve on this car ? Such a great car to drive, it just does it all so well

We live in an age where its all about the latest and greatest and everything is hyped to the nines and back.
Dreading the forthcoming hyperbole and gushing from all the press.

I've read of exactly one problem with the 991.1 GT3 engines: poorly manufactured big end bolts. All engines replaced under recall and no further problems reported.
What other problems exist?
Engines, particularly under track use have proven quite problematic and quite a few cars have had an engine replaced, some more than one engine since the initial factory stop sale. What other problems exist?
There is plenty out there on this. Porsche have done the right thing by owners to date. As with many of these things solutions are often found, also invariably the same PHer's jump on these threads.
I have a 991.1 GT3, with a warranty which its only sensible to keep up. I'm not concerned.

Fred
