997! But then I would say so wink
This advice is from pictures alone, but that 997 looks gorgeous and a manual, non sunroof C2 is the one to have hehe
The one you posted has PASM, which C2 seldomly have. This means 19" wheels, and they look really good. One owner is also a major bonus, imho.
At this price, the 997 is a no brainer!

C2 with tha later, bigger ims bearing are pretty good, as far as M96/7 engines go. And should it need a rebuild at some point (hopefully in the far future), this one being a 1 owner car in very good condition, should merit it.

I saw the 997 yesterday and the colour was very nice. Tyres were like new, brake discs perfect, no overrrevs beyond band 2. Beautiful car, but so was the 996

The big bonus with 1 owner cars is, that the person who shelled out the £75k in 2007 probably has looked after it rather well.
Of course this is a generalization and not always true!

With many expensive cars, often the first buyer sold it when the new model came out, the second owner still paid a lot for it, but it detoriates often from there. Again, this absolutely is not be true for any car and sometimes less expensive specialists look after an old Porsche better than an OPC, but I get very good vibes from this one owner 997.

Also while I'm a big fan of the fried egg 996, I don't really care for the facelift myself. At the end of the day, aesthetically the 997.1 is the best looking 911 Porsche has ever produced. IMHO.

I'm not sure. The wide arches on the 997 can look a bit too wide to me. Especially the 4wd shell. Is it only Me who sees a bit too much wide arch going on there at the rear?

I agree, just bitten the bullet on a 2002 with 117k miles but 1 owner from new with full PSH from same dealer. Downside is little to no use since Covid but I've priced in the things that need maintenance and car is otherwise immaculate. Seen a few and this is by far the best

The early, ‘long nose’ cars are the best looking 911’s & impact bumpers the worst.

I guess we all like different things, which is good!

I'm with you ATM, the wiedebody 997 is not to my liking. The narrow shell already has pretty nice hips that don't need to be any wider.
Just yesterday I was at an event at my local OPC and had a discussion with a friend in the classic department.

I have always preferred the look of the G over the original myself. It gives the car a more purposeful look, imho.
For a classic Porsche, I prefer the 365 over the early 911. Peak aircooled 911 is the 964, imho, while my friend prefers the 993.

That said, the 993 C2S they had on display is a widebody and looks stunning cloud9

993’s look good with wide body, or RS, but otherwise I’m not a fan… narrow body on small wheels and standard suspension not a great looking car.

964’s are lovely.

I went with the 997 in the end. It was a close race and I travelled 6.5hrs to get to the 996, but it wasn’t ready and doubt crept in another opportunity came up which although more expensive, I think it’ll be a better long term buy.

Thanks for the advice, guidance and patience.

I'm not a fan of the 996.2 either. Turbo and Gt3 excluded. It's the combination of the compromise front end styling and a "they somehow made it worse" engine. 997.1 falls in to that bracket for me as well regarding the engine. Personal opinion but I feel they are ALL a case of not if, but when, regarding borescoring.

I agree on the 964 comment but for me it's not just peak air cooled but peak 911...stylewise anyway. I'm possibly one of the few (along with everyone's favourite Porsche crusty) that just doesn't get the 993... I just don't get it at all.

I suppose the beauty of the 911 range is that there's something for almost all tastes. I'm considering my next one at the moment and while previously I would have gone for a 997.2 or a 991.1 the last 5 years with the 996 have taught me that I don't want anything bigger, faster, more complicated or heavier feeling so I'm currently leaning toward something pre 1990... and possibly a targa (god I really am getting old). Just a really pretty sunny day B road cruiser that makes a nice noise.
