Valid point so I'm in two minds about it.

Anyhow, in the meantime I thought I'd try some amber halogens I picked up a while back.

Love the amber and black combination.

Amber all the way. I need to Amber mine as it's gone clear at some point. Headlights are absolutely shocking though. I tried driving mine last night and thought about turning back at one point to get in a different car with better lights. The 20 year old lights are clearly the slowest part on the car.

It's a shame that there's no tested, established and straightforward way of upgrading the lights in these to a modern level.

I believe there is a way to fit projectors inside the headlights. Someone advised me on here. I think one of the boxa.net lads.

Mine's just waiting for an amber refit.. (I have established it was ordered with clears from the factory, even though it's a '99 C2). I have sourced the headlights & am now on the lookout for a good set of rear lights.

So is this running 205 50 / 255 40 tyres. How does it feel? Have you tried any different sizes / widths etc?

Anyone else tried their 996 on 17's?

Feels great to me, although a bit harsh ride at low speeds. It all comes together when you start to push it a bit faster. Bags of traction, plenty of front end grip if driven sympathetically, good body control.

Haven't tried any other wheels, doubt I will TBH. Tyres will be changed some time this year - they are quite old S02's & are v noisy on poor surfaces. Might try some Yokos, I like their tyres. Longer term I do fancy some EXE-TC dampers....

Followed a W-reg 996 in Guards through Taunton the other day. I can see why not many went for it on the 996 as it doesn't look right, imo.

This wasn't aero-kitted, mind, and it did have pressed plates and a knob at the wheel.

smile I saw that they were launching some single adjustable dampers for the 996 - they would do just fine...

Check out the boxster thread on here by thomasgraint I think his username is or something similar. He installed projectors into standard headlights and looks to have worked a treat. Alternatively it seems you can easily retrofit install litronics lights if you can find some - seems easy enough to me?

Would seem strange that you can't buy pre set up whole units though as you can for most BMW's etc with angel eyes in. Modernises the car no end

The litronics look ok to be fair. I uprated the main and full beam bulbs in my standard headlamps to Osram Night Breaker Unlimited and it was a decent improvement. I highly doubt it matches xenons though. The ambers do look good!!

Sad face.
Mine is a W reg, non-aero, Guards 996 and I think it looks fantastic. Doubt it would suit ambers as much as many of the other colours though. Black with ambers looks great!

No clearance or rubbing issues
I like that.

Bear in mind there is always a bit of extra room for the wheel on any factory car. Obviously when you get to the extremes of the widest wheel that can fit then even camber affects this. Also the tyre has a big impact on this.
Tyre brand will have an effect too. I've noticed on mine that the Conti's seem to be wider than the brand that were on before ('squarer of shoulder' perhaps) - same tyre size.

Thanks for that. It looks better than I thought. I might try a set of ambers eventually (cue prices of ambers rocketing...)

The guy is on the Porsche 996 Carrera owners page on Facebook. It's a 2000 C4 manual, 92k on the clock. Engine was rebuilt at 71k and he's asking £17995 for it. If you can't find the group on Facebook, drop me an email and I'll send you a link

For me the 4 is a bit of a no no BUT I can look past that for the blue - oh yeah - was that some kind of special order or a standard colour in 2000. The wheels are easily changed and what are design tek dampers?
