Would you still have an inspection done with them coming from a dealer? Especially Northway who are so well regarded on the Porsche world

I obviously can't vouch for that specific car, but I bought my car from Northway in 2011 and have used them for servicing ever since. I'd be 100% comfortable buying from them again.

Then I'd definitely get either inspected by another Indy.

So I'm down to a choice of two on the shortlist. The search for a manual 3.4 cable throttle with aero and M030 and LSD and black leather was fruitless - ended up at a 3.6 with no aero

What say you Porsche gurus?
Wait for an early manual 3.4 cable throttle and forget M030 and forget LSD and forget black leather or just be willing to flex on these.

Atlas is a much nicer (& rarer) colour than black & Dansk is really not a selling point.

I'd buy the car you want not the options. I was less bothered about colours but i understand they can be important.

My friend just bought a 3.6 996.2 and it has standard suspension and 17 inch wheels and open diff and he loves it.

A 996.2 could be great but they are a bit more refined so possibly less raw and a tiny bit heavier. Its for this reason and the bore score fears and the lack of driver aids that made me wait for an early car. Pootling around would you really notice the difference - i doubt it.

From the little i know about what my car can do on a winding road i doubt many drivers would ever get near the car's limits on a road.

I prefer the original lights and ambers but that's me. I like telling people my car is 20 years old too.

But obviously buy the car you want.

I think the car in the link has been "self-serviced" by 2 previous owners....it might put some people off possibly?

Not M030 now but with even better stuff. Great specs / mods for anyone looking to drive rather than to polish.

The correct link for that car:

This ^

Any car you buy with an LSD will more than likely need it rebuilding, if the car still has its original M030 dampers & springs the same would apply for these. - M030 dampers are also 20 year old tech, there are better options available.

Aero can obviously be added but IMO you'd be better off buying one with it already fitted. When it comes to selling, bodywork changes always raise uncertainty with buyers.

M030 is nice to have, even if it's just for the aesthetic.

LSD I'm not sure is really needed in a 911.

All the stuff about 3.4 & cable throttle continues to amuse me though. Not so long ago you only bought that spec if you couldn't afford a 3.6 ! And now it's suddenly the must-have combo. Meh. Unless you have some very specific usage in mind I doubt you'll notice the difference.

I have an early throttle cable car, and unless you're a driving god I don't think you'd notice much (if any) difference between that and a later car

After a heater matrix, RMS, power steering pipes and the brake line over the gearbox back in Jan, just had mine in again for a service, MOT, and some other bits - discs and pad f&r, handbrake rebuilt, some suspension components, 4 wheel alignment, brake fluid change, major service, etc etc.

Almost £4k in 2 visits, so pretty painful, but should be good to go for a while now... just got slip the bill past the wife or it will be 'when are you going to sell that bloody car' again biggrin

So do I, but I bet you'd be hard pressed to tell the differnce between a throttle cable car and an egas car smile

What upgrades have you got planned?

I'd like to lose some weight. First up is seats. Then I might dump the AC. I like the idea of Carrera Light Weight's car have you seen his thread. He has also junked the Power Steering too and uses an unassisted rack.
