Did a few bits and pieces a few months ago. LWFW, RSS semi solids, IMS, clutch, solid gearbox mount and a few little odds and ends. Removed the rear seats too.

Needs a new key, braided lines and some clutch pipework as service items, along with a new head unit.

Would like to do the following over the summer.
- manifolds, ti studs, 200 cell cats (Top Gear look good)
- duck tail
- 997 GT3 shift kit
- OZs

Currently running black GT3 look wheels. Want to go back to silver on my arctic aero car. Might as well sell my set and go lightweight.

May do the cup wheel and shifter at some point.

It's a lovely little rolling project smile
Love yours in blue. I had a 98 Ocean Blue a few years back.
RSS semi solids are on the to do list at some point for mine, we were talking about 200 cell cats when my car was in for service at the weekend. I've got a 997 short shift kit fitted, I really like it. Just done the key and did braided lines last year.

I'd love a ducktail too, are you doing anything with the front bumper? I think it might need a lip spoiler, or GT3 bumper to even the look out?
Mines an aero kit, and I agree it would look odd on a standard car.
My Indy has a good fiberglass ducktail supplier, and says it's about a thousand pounds painted and fitted. Objectively, it's a complete waste of money. However, there's something about getting these cars exactly how you want them that feels like money well spent!

We're looking at about 3 1/2 to do manifolds, studs, cats, spoiler, shifter kit, cup wheel etc. Add in another 1k net to switch wheels and it's looking a bit pricey.

However, the alternative is to buy something modern as a weekend car. Have you seen the options costs and depreciation on a 570GT?!

Depending on which direction we ultimately go in I may end up going to an eGas setup from my current cable one, but that would be as a result of going to syvecs (and not certain even then).

I mostly get on fine with the e-gas on my 2001 3.4. Certainly never seems lazy or unwilling on downshifts, and response is mostly nice and crisp. The only phase of driving where it can niggle is pulling away at low speed / from low rpm, at a junction etc. Occasionally it seems to lag the position of my right gently moving foot - and then suddenly plays catch up with a jerk.

570 GT - lovely thing IMO, but although I could probably, at a push take possession of one, the depreciation / overall cost of ownership would be worrying enough to spoil the enjoyment. So I do not kid myself that I could `afford` one!

The great thing about the 996 is that it provides such a good platform to create what you want from. Mine has a stock body, and I like that. But it has a Cargraphic exhaust and a properly set up Ohlins R&T suspension, so it feels pointy with a dependable front end, is composed even when pushed, rides firmly but not harshly and sounds nice. Later in the year it might go on a small diet, and get some different seats - possibly even wheels and a sportier gear shift. I hear the stock 997 shift is a good if mild upgrade.

But first the car and me (in company with a Ferrari CS & 996.2 GT3/CS) are off on a road trip - transporter to Munich / Italian lakes (+ Ferrari factory tour) Alps, South of France (inc Monaco Classic GP) - more France - Pyrenees to Bilbao - ferry home. While my companions are a little twitched about the mileage going onto their highly collectible / valuable machines it is nowhere on my radar ! The humble & `basic` 996 has a lot going for it I think.

I'm with you on these. I already have the 997 shifter waiting to go on which is fitted with ball bearings to replace the standard bushings. Have you seen any of the solutions which raise the assembly about 2 inches so the nob is nearer to where it should be?

I am now thinking about seats.

The search for a manual 3.4 cable throttle with aero and M030 and LSD and black leather was fruitless -
This has just appeared - 1998, C2, manual, aerokit, M030, LSD, black interior, sports seats - £17.5k:

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/F4oAAOSwoJNa1kDz/s-...
Not M030 now but with even better stuff. Great specs / mods for anyone looking to drive rather than to polish.

The correct link for that car:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...
I cannot imagine anything else at that price that could offer such a fabulous driving experience! Stunning machine and incredible value.
Says sold. Anyone on here?

That is a lot of beige.

Wouldn't cost more than a grand to replace all the seats with black (incl hard back sorts seats if you wanted them), colour code centre console and retrim steering wheel / gear lever / hand brake

No way you could change that interior to all black for less than 1k$/gbp!
Even if you did all the work yourself.
You'd have to change all the headliners, sunvisors, A,B,C pillars, door cards carpets, dash, steering wheel, etc.
Even redying certain parts would involve material costs north of a grand without work.

That's been for sale for a long time - the interior could be the reason but it looks to be ruffled Natural leather, which was a very expensive option when new. Might look better in the flesh/daylight perhaps? It's got a very good MOT history. Bet he'd take an offer.

I also do not think its beige. Looks a little darker to me. My mate's green 996.2 has tan and that red one could bevtge same.

I'm curious why a 996.1 has a colour coded wheel - i didn't know that was an option back then?

As I've said above, not beige but "Natural" leather - a £3600 option. Ruffled leather was another £370! What do you mean by a colour coded wheel? All UK 996s had steering wheels that same colour as the rest of the interior as standard.

Yeah I agree on that but I was only thinking changing a few bits to break it up. I think just those bits I mentioned is doable.
You could get a full set of comfort seats in black I reckon for £500. Centre console £150. Then retrim on steering wheel, gear stick and handbrake £350. Even if it's a bit more, you'd get a couple hundred back from selling the old seats

That's been on sale for quite a while as mentioned before and I did consider having a look but bought elsewhere. Not sure I could live with the beige/tan but the Guards red did appeal.

As others have said, I think that might work well in the metal, and it's been for sale for a while.
Worth going to see. I had savannah in my old ocean blue '98 and I grew to really like it.
I have a real hankering for a black/ambers/savannah car on 17s. Would make an awesome daily.
