what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
ah - didn't realize it has been re listed..........
i guess lack of original service book...... and possibly real evidence of service history may be putting folk off...... i imagine if he had decent history he would have the usual picture of a wedge of receipts etc.......
despite not being guards...... if it was local to me i'd certainly be having a gander at it

I still lurk on this thread and the vibe is very much as it was for us 993 owners back in the day.
Doesn't surprise me - there's a C2 vs C4 thread on 911uk at the moment with the same arguments/comments as a 993 C2 vs C4 thread on here back in 2011!ATM said:

Okay, here it is. 1999 3.4 with the sports suspension option and LSD (which is probably worn out now, I know...).
For me it's the right blend of being in good condition without being too mint - used, but very smart. Completely standard inside and the previous owner spent quite a bit on replacing the small things that I wouldn't notice, like radio knobs, sunvisors and even the cup holders that clip into the air vents.
Mechanically it has had A/C condensors, coffin arms, tyres and multiple other parts in the last 18 months. The previous owner wasn't afraid to spend money when required, which I like. Clutch is less than 10k old, too.
The eagle eyed will notice that there's a tiny spot of rust on the top of the RR arch and that when the wheels were refurbished last summer the company didn't use stainless bolts to rebuild them so they've gone rusty. These are first on the list.
I'm very happy two days in. In fact I'm off outside to fit my Pure Highway 400 DAB adaptor.
That looks familiar. I've recently got a 1999 with the sports pack too - love it. Mine has a Nephrite green interior though! For me it's the right blend of being in good condition without being too mint - used, but very smart. That was my understanding as well... more compression = more toe... but even ignoring that, the consensus is 996's need at least some rear toe.
Why do you want to go to zero? Trying to make the car feel more agile?
Towards zero as in less toe in but not actually 0. The idea being it will feel a bit looser rather than so planted. Read more interesting. That was my understanding as well... more compression = more toe... but even ignoring that, the consensus is 996's need at least some rear toe.

Your car doesn't have PSM or TC, does it?
I'll interject here, if I may, as I've run a few racecars in my time, including Porsches.
I wouldn't be inclined to reduce rear toe in the hunt for better rotation. There are various other ways to do it, including playing with the front toe out to improve the initial turn-in reaction. I think it's important to have the toe in at the rear for stability when its required. As Chris said, above, that tail can and will bite with the weight distribution the way it is. Fit some coilovers with adjustable platforms and try changing the rake, which really makes a difference - on the Cup racers (996s and 997s) the rear ride height made a significant balance change and was one of our main tuning aids when the cars were really in the window. Bear in mind that a 997 Cup car would run around 8mm of toe in overall at the rear... Okay, this was on slicks and combined with nearly 5 degrees of rear camber, but you get the idea.
