Seems quite low miles to have required a rebuild. My silver 996 aero kit recently bought for quite a lot less has covered 118k so will no doubt need a rebuild at some point. If it does (hope not for a while, as need to save up) I could spend the 10kish required and still be in for less than this example. So think it's prob worth a bit less personally but like the seats.

Many 996 engines replaced by OPC or rebuilt by owners in the early days. Loads of them do not mention to the second/third owners..

I would expect a minter at that price. Bad paint and possible bent chassis - walk away

wowowow, that escalated quickly!

Is there anything to say the chassis was ever bent?

Try and find any 1999 car that hasn't ever had any paint - especially a Porsche that owners like to keep mint. A front end respray is almost a maintenance item!

Bonnets get stone chips, bumpers scraped on kerbs, the leading edges of front wings get peppered and rust. Before you know it you are blending in down the doors.

It might just be a bad photo (shadow).

Just opened my Readly subscription. Good article in Evo magazine this month on 'Bargain 911s' smile Nice to see the 996 get some positive magazine pages and I agreed on what was written, though maybe the actual main article was a bit short in driving detail.

A couple of nice examples have appeared on AT recently, though I'll link this one seeing as it's the most expensive at £35K hehe

Ridiculous price and to my eye an unpleasant interior, who wants wood trim in a 911 ? I see that at high teens tops.

I've been posting my 996 finds in the poverty Pork thread, not realising similar examples were discussed here.

£15,995 1999 73k mile C4 manual (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-911-carrera-4-manual/202299213047)

RMS and IMS done just done, along with clutch, a/c condensors etc. Looks a decent example to my non expert eye.

I really like the look of that. I'm getting quite hooked on the idea of having one of these, just not in a position to buy right now sadly but I do love everyone's help and advice in this thread! biggrinthumbup

if that checks out clean, its one of the best buys I have seen in a long time. I do like the clean elegant lines of a non kitted car.

Me too but because I have the 17 inch wheels on mine I feel I am permitted to say without any uncertain terms that they look even better without the willy waving 18 inch turbo rip offs.

I'd rather not have the IMS bearing messed with, better the original one on a early 3.4

Should have been clearer. Seal, not bearing.

My 996 stubble suggests that's a 3.6?

It would be great if adverts which state a rebuild has been done detailed exactly what that entailed. Doing a bank is a very different thing to the full closed deck works.

The advert says short block from Porsche. How much more description is needed?

Surely it's the customer who requests the work done appropriate to their budget. If the Indy recommendation is always to spend your life savings on a full blown PH approved Hartech rebuild then we would all be crying foul as well.

I know though that Eporsch stand by their cars. I know of a recent customer who had a Boxster engine failure, just outside their in house warranty period too, and Eporsch took the car back no quibbles.
