We're talking about the car. FWIW. In 2016 better options were available, known and well out in the public domain. There are numerous threads and resources via a quick google.

If nothing else it's a known quantity.
Sure some well forum read people know about it but there are many more that don't. If you are an average Joe and presented with options many go with the Porsche 'approved' and safe option. It may not be the best but it gives the most reassurance for many. You've only got to look at the dozens of threads on N rated tyres, what will or won't satisfy the warranty etc.

My Porsche knowledge is minimal but really, we all have access to the internt?

First hit - Hartech.

Doubt that was different at any time during the last 3 years+

Anyway, I'm sure there are good reasons. It is what it is.

Ad says...
"Only serious buyers considered"
"50 thousand pounds"
"Completely rubberized underside"
"This is how the 996 should have looked"

I would think a sense of humour is required!

I spied that on AT myself, I quite like the colour combo.
Me too. Both these green ones have got me hot and bothered.

A 3.4 short block is currently £5414 inc vat part number 996100951TX (that might be x51)
What's the difference with x51 in the block department on the 3.4?

I know the sump pan is different and then I thought it was heads and cams.

"The 3.4 x51 kit came with different pistons, also cams, heads, intake, headers, oil pan, and a double scavenge pump on bank 2 head."

The 3.6 and 3.8 x51 short block is no different apparently.

I couldn't find a part number and price for the non-x51 3.4 short block on a quick google, but your local OPC should be helpful.

Saw a green 996.1 at my Indy a few years ago - wouldn't have been a colour I thought about much, but it looked awesome in the flesh.

That's definitely Rainforest Green....the colour of my first 996 l had with Savannah interior. Still stands out nicely from the more normal colours.

Dam, those gingers look good against dark blue ( is it ocean?)
Yes - and yes smile The car was spec'd with clears as an option AFAIK, & I fitted the better lights smile (I have the clears in the garage for "originality..)
