I think all such things are subjective and personal and not entirely comfortable with expressing such things on a public forum. People ultimately need to look at things and form their own judgements.

Howevrler, if I were, for example, looking for a guards car to retro fit a factory aero kit and then repaint the whole thing, then it wouldn't be a bad place to start.

You cannot have a 996 C2 6MT that is mechanically sound with 'as new' bodywork for £14k from a trade seller.

There is personal subjectivity and then there is unrealistic expectations for a given budget.

If I saw £14,000 I’d assume it needs ~£6,000 of work to get it too standard, which in this case would be largely taken up with a respray (if a decent detailed could not save the existing paint).

I never said "as new". I don't expect any used car to be "new" whether that be 2 years old or 22 years old. I've a few cars of that age so have comparitors and qualified people who can offer input and guidance.

As I said, people need to look at things for themselves. I'm not doing PPIs for people.

I've commented before on your expectations, I sincerely hope you do prove me wrong & prove that the ideal 996 can be had for sub £15K but for now they seem to be priced as per the rest of our expectations & I cant see them getting any cheaper.
I may be the odd one out in that I bought the first 1 I seen & that didn't even have an engine in it but you must be well into double figures for cars you have considered.

I'm not too sure I subscribed to the every 996 is going to cost £20k one way or another things. Unless I've got a massive bill heading my way!

Excluding wheels mine owes me probably around £13k and has had brakes, suspension, clutch and IMS done within the past few years. I reckon I could spend a grand or so on paint and a few other odds and ends bringing it up to scratch, but after that you're just renewing things for the sake of it.

The upper end of the 996 C2 2nd hand price bracket are low mileage very well cherished examples, they go for more than £14k, much more.

I suspect some posters on here simply want to play the long game and hope to be the first to latch on to some poor sucker who is willing to offload a mint car for way below what they know to be worth.

Sorry, no

It's not priced to reflect that. Read the advert.

Again, no.

But I won't be paying more than I need to.

If I wanted to spend 20k+ I'd already be driving Baz's old C4S.

And for all I have said either do I, mines due me £13.5K but I did accept higher mileage 118K & the 5 month wait for it to get put back on the road.

I paid £10k for my high miler (just over 100k) 3 and half years ago. Spent £3k on it essential, another £3k optional.

Suspension could do worth looking at, probs at least £2k there takes me to £15k essential spend.

Then next I would look at exhaust (£2k, non essential) and mild engine rebuild (£6k, non essential - at the moment)

Mine needs condensers & re-gas, a wheel refurb and shocks... so maybe 2-3k (less if you could do the work yourself). Other than that it's mechanically perfect.

But it's on 169k miles, so I'd probably struggle to get £10k for it unless someone knew what they were looking at.

Have you found and bought one yet?

You've been sniffing round for a while, and you're now missing another summer! Don't sweat the last couple of thousand pounds, life's too short. Find a good one, offer what it's worth, have it.

I don't follow? You're the one saying that it'd need a respray, a decent respray is going to be in the 4-8k area, call it 6, 6+14=20.

I'd want to see when the suspension was last replaced as (depending on how it's been driven) it may well be due it's second replacement set.

It's undeniably pretty, it's got the right seats, steering wheel, the ashtray lid is either glued shut or surprisingly un-buggered, the horrific aftermarket stereo needs to be hurled into the nearest bin at once and replaced with something period correct, and i'd like to have a look at the metal under the door striker plates and the seams of the deck lid.

I'd also want to know why the badge on the deck lid is in the wrong place.

I bought the first one I found. There were not many around and this popped up nearby so I thought I'll have it. Mine is a bit tatty but the panels look quite straight and it had seen some new tricky suspension bits, rads, clutch and a diy engine rebuild so I thought F it. The jury is still out on the engine and the rock hard suspension but I do like the car. Now I've spent far too much on it I can't see the point of looking for a better one.

I took a similar route, both times I've bought a C2. Do a bit of DD, find the loose spec you want, and get on with it. Everything is fixable and nothing is mega expensive. I know I like to tinker, so upgrades follow when something needs attention.

Its not a financial instrument, it's a car, built for fun. I personally find driving more fun than endlessly searching for mistakenly underpriced perfection.

True,

Considered Fezzer may be enjoying the hunt?

Best of luck I say.

Shame that red one wasn't a good'un. Looks fantastic.
