what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
Got home from a lovely extended family holiday late last night. My 2000 C4 coupe has been sat on the drive for the 23 days we were away & this morning as I left for work I seen it sitting there, quick return indoors to swap keys & hold breath, would it start????
Fired up first time, bit of break binding but after 3 minutes of driving it was like brand new.
Good its great to be back behind the wheel & these are truly great cars.

3.4 - isn't that still defined as early?
Looks like a good purchase!

However a 2001 c4 has not got all the main advantages of the really early 3.4:
Cable throttle
C2 purity
no pasm (all c4 had this?)
being a 2001 it might have got plastic pistons like the 3.6
also being a crossover year who knows what IMS bearing it has, probably has the single row job rather than the beefier dual row
You don't have to be a driving god to tell the difference between a c2 and c4. Whether one is better than the other or not is up to which one you prefer. The c4 is apparently stiffer.

I was going to mention these but thought I might get them wrong so glad someone else did it for me.no pasm (all c4 had this?)

PS it's psm not pasm

No side airbags in my 1998 C2, must have come along a little later?
On the subject of purity of early cars to me it must be
A C2 no question.
Be cable throttle.
The above aero C4 looks a great car though and I would certainly be tempted if i was in the market, C4 owners always counter with "Its the same chassis as a 996 GT3 you know"
