Mine

Mine is one of the earliest sold in the UK and is the same (though in much maligned Savannah leather - which I love because I am a chav)
I checked my v5 and it's August 98
Earliest is end 97.

Is the build date on the sticker under the lid?

Anyone running a Cup wheel with a metropole interior?

Just want to check a black wheel doesn't look daft with a blue interior... otherwise I'll order a leather Momo and get it re-trimmed.

I kept looking at changing the steering wheel, but think it looks out of place if you're keeping the rest of the interior.

Also, airbags are pretty useful if the worst happens. Have kept all of mine in situ.

Another late 996.1 C2 to add to the mix?

A new clutch at 27k miles? That's Aston Vantage kinda clutch life! Maybe hard miles? I believe my clutch is still original and I'm on 111k miles now.
Top price for a private sale too, despite the low mileage.

I want the wheel closer to me.

^Snap, that was the primary reason for me changing, with the three spoke/OEM wheel it was just too far away.

I've also scalloped out the seat cushion, and fitted the eccentric spacer, now the wheel is in the perfect position and I can see all the clocks, plus the original wheel takes five minutes to spanner back on should I want to.

I've actually got a spacer for the OEM wheel which I ordered but then never used - if anyone wants it, let me know.

This isn't my photo, but this is the idea:

It doesn't (to my eye) look out of place when I'm sitting in the car, but of course this is incredibly personal.

Feels nice.

I wondered what a difference airbags make in a modern car . Closest I could find is a Renault/Dacia Duster with no airbags:

I like the look of the Momo Prototipo/Cup wheels in a 996. I could imagine it makes for an even more classic feeling, like so many keep posting.
But I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable without airbag. Sure, my classic car doesn't have airbags either, but it's not the same never having had one in the first place or removing an existing one.

The momo 07 really suits a 996, compared to riding my motorbike running air bag less seems a minor risk lol

I find mine a little too small and the distance to the indicators a bit far. I'd also prefer the gear lever to be nearer to the wheel - so higher basically.

I think RPM's new CSR Evo has a long 'shift?

Gearlever mounted higher would be good, there’s a limit to what I’m prepared to change though as it has to look OEM.

<snigger> get close to the indicator and you’ll be fine.

I’m on my dodgy phone so I can’t bold the bits that I found hilarious. Just my mind/had to be there moment....

I've got the 997 GT3 gear shift mechanism, with the 996 knob, I guess I could try extending the shaft (fnar), might make the shift a little ponderous?

Stop this please! I was nicely happy with my decision to keep the original wheel and you lot are now just posting porn!

Agree on relative risk though. I hit 94 kph at L'Etape this year and there's no airbags in my lycra!
