It's great people like the 996, it's fantastic that RPM are putting these out in the market place. They're just overpriced IMO
No different to what various companies do to old land rovers etc.

They are trying to build a brand, rehashing cheap old cars into the emperors new clothes.

I wouldn't buy one because I could build one better for cheaper, but if you are the type with plenty of cash and like the image and ease of buying one already done it could make sense for you.

The fact they are making something amazing with very few and simple mods just highlights how good the 996 is.

Targa tip has to be the least desirable combo? Someone will want it but it's gonna be there a while at that price

£24,000 spend on drugs if he thinks he'll get 19K for that. Ha.

Following my deliberations late last year, I've finally posted mine in the classifieds. Let's see how it goes.
Who knows, I might end up using it as my daily if the interest isn't there and my Fiesta ST sells first...

May I ask what this hot start niggle manifests as? Because mine has one too..
Check your earth strap (drivers side underside engine) - clean up and retension.

As mentioned the starter 'y' lead loses its conductive properties due to continuous heating/cooling and therefore requires more amps to turn the starter motor. It runs from the jump post on top of engine to starter with the y running to the alternator. I modified some heavy duty leads which improved starting from hot.
It could just be the starter motor, which is what mine was. Started fine when cold, but really struggled after stopping at petrol stations etc. The indy I use (DW Performance in Wellingborough - highly recommended for those in the East Mids) reckoned the starter was the issue most of the time with these problems because of the long term exposure to engine bay heat degrading the magnets and so it proved. One new starter later and it turns over with great enthusiasm whether hot or cold. The cable was fine.

Looks nice to me. I tried the market at 14k a few months ago and got no interest but hopefully you will do better.

that car that dammit referred to on the 911 forum looks absolutely sublime............ if only it had been my unicorn guards red !!

i generally hate the grey interior - but what he has done with the seats... and the steering wheel make it look ace, andoslutely fabulous... if someone is in the market for an early aerokitted car (black) i doubt you will ever come across anything better !!

just shows... they are out there !!! just takes a while............................

Very much this. Their earlier builds are suspension refresh, ducktail and new IMS bearing with a chunky price tag. The later builds with a new engine are GT3 money, and I know which way my money would go.
I'm lucky enough to have owned both a 996.2 CSR and latterly a 996.2 GT3. The only aspect the CSR can't get near, is the Mezger and the sound and response at the top of that rev range, and the obvious cache of the GT3 badge. In every other respect the CSR is a decent match. Trust me, it's that good. A decent GT3 is £60k so I'm not sure the CSR is even in the same ballpark unless you go completely mad with the mods.

Thanks for the technical answer - does it conduct less when hot, thus manifests itself when hot starting? Just trying to understand the why!
I suspect the copper cables and metal connectors thermal resistance increases with age. Other factors will be battery decline, alternator, starter and earthing have an overall affect. The earth is a simple clean as it will corrode on the terminal. These flat sixes have a lethargic start anyway.

Dammit! (not the PH user!) - got in the car this morning and dropped the passenger window down to clear the moisture off it.

That's it in for a new regulator - thankfully my garage is local and I didn't have to go anywhere today! Drivers side failed shortly after I got the car, so that's them both replaced in the last 3 years ....

I did one myself but I've never been happy with the adjustment. What does the garage charge you?

I'm waiting to see - first one charged me too much, as they didn't know their Porkers (Merc indy) and have a high labour rate.

Regulator is much more expensive now it seems frown

I thought about DIY but when I read the guide I realised I'd probably screw it up! I reckon two hours labour

Came to 360 all in - 300 for the OEM regulator and an hours labour to fit. He's done quite a few now so lined it up perfectly first time!

TBH I could have bought genuine for 200 of ECP myself just now (discount sale on), but he can't get those prices on trade anymore (he also got it from ECP), and I don't grudge him making a few quid off the parts as he's always there when I need him and doesn't mess me around.

Cost me 500 for the drivers side, so I'm happy!
