No way! Custard!
Because it's the rule.

Will add it's not the first 996 purchase, nor particularly recent.

Congrats on the purchase Fezza :-)
For reasons we won't go into, that's also funny.

I’ll be two years into ownership in October and still cannot believe how cheap they are for what they are. Yes there are some horror stories and you have to go into it eyes open. I’d love an air cooled but the risk of purchasing a pup with engine and/or bodywork issues could cost 3 or 4 times to remedy than an M96 rebuild.

I’m sticking with it for the long term - their value will go up at some point.

Urgh, that's not an early 3.4!
Get it off this thread tongue out

Be interested to hear how you're getting on with it - as a 'roadie' I prefer my C2 to the GT3, but can totally understand for track work.

I'll ask him. The engine should be re-build by now.
I was assuming warranty and they just replace it.
Finally got an answer.

It has warranty, and it is being re-build by a specialist here in Germany.

The pistons were pressed into the cylinder walls apparently. The engine builder estimates that it is something to do with the fact that he was doing 260kph+ for a few mins at the time. He has seen it more than once he said.

Personal preference I know, but did you consider a larger stick on plate on the upper surface of the bumper, as the older rally cars used to do it?

I really , really , really love that! A nicely sorted Austin Healey, in my forever bucket list!

So the inference is these engines fail at sustained high stress and high revs?

Achieved this milestone yesterday and before anyone says I should drive it more I've done about 6000 miles since I bought it last year. Blame the previous 4 owners for not wearing it out.

That they could from a certain mileage onwards (70K km was mentioned).

We need the story on how you managed to find a 28K mile 996

It was advertised on Autotrader last year with just over 29k on the clock. I’m the 5th owner. I know of a 3.6 996 C4S tip targa for sale with just over 26k on the clock.

That's a great effort. I'd probably find a way of stuffing the wheel in the car though, just for the aero benefits!

Hah, that's a 110mm/boost hub with a 15mm through-axle in a wheel stand designed for 100mm QR. It would be significantly easier to put the wheel in it's bag and throw it in the back - but for two weeks in Morzine I need all the storage I can get, hence the wheel goes on the roof.

If you don't need to take a lot of luggage things get a lot easier:
