what is an 'early' 3.4 996?

Could be, but I've got a full set of winters for the C55, so I'd use that instead.
Yes. I was just wondering whether the target client base and 996's intended use as a one car for all occasions type vehicle meant that the rack was designed in for the ski-set. Maybe cyclists, too, or vice versa. Either way, it's a neat solution and something that was clearly part of the spec sheet from early in the process. Is there something similar on the Boxster?Sounds like a good un. DIY engine rebuild with some Hartech machining thrown in.

Porsche did make an estate once; the RS2.
Great car, ruinously expensive (to run, also) now, sadly.
I had 2 friends that had an RS2, I think the only ruinously expensive things they talked about were the brakes as they both had the big brake upgrade. From memory I think the discs were cheaper from Porsche than they were from Audi!Great car, ruinously expensive (to run, also) now, sadly.
Pricing in 996s is interesting one you look more broadly. I’ve been looking to buy a car over here in Spain, where 2nd Hans car prices are ridiculous. 996s are super rare, and still command high prices (996 4S at 50k euros). Looking father afield, German prices are significantly higher than Uk (based off my small sample size, you can find a manual for under 14k, and some have stratospheric mileages.
More broadly, seems Europeans are much less frightened by big miles than Brits.

I've a friend in Germany that deals in classic VW and Porsche, if you like I'll ask him to keep an eye out for a 996 for you Chris
Another 996 is the last thing I need. I’m looking for a cheapish SUV... a Touareg or similar, c.5k. Will probably have to hit in Germany as tbe Spanish seem to think their 15 year old shed, with 300k Km is still worth what they paid for it. Chris Stott said:

I think most exotics in this country - which does not include the 996 - have had a hair cut. It's even getting common now on lumpy barges with these 2 year lease deals at 5000 miles per year.A chap in boxa.net imported his boxster to spain a few years ago. He documented the whole thing as well, you can check sometime, it was pretty straightforward. I think overall europe, only the cheaper ones are still existing in Poland somehow. Their history is quite shady of course but comparing to Germany or spain, quite cheaper cars around.

I'd be wary of buying in certain parts of Europe. Germany a relatively safe bet IME.
Yes, Germany is my plan. Their mot system is pretty strict as I understand it, so hoping to get something is decent mechanical nick. Just want something to use here, but big enough that I can do airport pickups with luggage, and will carry the family rotund. Something like a Touareg or E Class wagon.
James... does your mate come across anything like this in his trade?
