Not sure if it's against the PH rules posting a link to another forum.

This is interesting

Pas replaced with electric PAS pump (same pump as the 996 cup cars)
A few people discussing it on 911UK. Simplifies the plumbing, removes some parasitic drag on the engine, moves weight from the back of the engine to the front.
How much money for something like this?
Would this not alter the feel of the car? I can see weight saving and distribution benefits, but if it affects the weight and feel of the steering in not so sure it's a good idea
I'm curious too. It mentions 996 cup cars. They are outright racers so dont give a monkeys about feel. I've seen a 997 cup car on here with the little pump and pipes in the frunk. Battery was down there too so not up high like our road cars.
Very unlikely to alter the steering feel at all. It's just a hydraulic pump driven by an electric motor instead of the crankshaft. The rack doesn't care where the high pressure fluid is coming from.

Sounds like a top car!
And styling wise, I have to say that those Carrera IV suit the 996 rather well!!

The Carrera IV is one of my favourite Porsche wheel designs and I think one of the lightest too.

This once more confirms the "rule" that you often strike gold with the smallest wheels of the next generation.

Hi all, been reading this thread...put a deposit down on an early 3.4 Carrera the other day and a, looking at getting an inspection and then collecting it as soon as is possible under current conditions.
Any words of wisdom?!
Good news. Is it the Zenith Blue one?

Sounds ok, drop out the front driveshafts if you insist on a C2!

This has slowed dropped in price, has hartech closed deck cylinders, coated pistons, IMS etc.

I am loving this one.Great colour, ambers, right wheels, contrasting interior, good price. I'd be putting a deposit down but really don't want to compromise on a manual gearbox and this one is a tiptronic.

Yeah it is, it seems a decent car from the money spent. I have mentioned an inspection to the seller and he isn’t keen, saying he worries they will tear the car to shreds....I told him I understand it isn’t new but I just need to know what I am getting into....maybe this will go south

That's a huge warning sign. I paid £250 for the inspection on the 996 I bought and it was worth every penny - got me £3,500 off the price of the car.

You can see why a seller might not be keen then!! They probably think you're going to try and knock them down for every little thing.

Are the ambers coming back into fashion then? The seller of that car lists them as being 'sought after' but I thought it was the reverse.

So many 996 (and 986) Porsche owners have paid to have the clear ones fitted. confused

The upgraded stereo has moved the air-con control panel to below the cubby, so I would hope it was done properly.

I have to say that is tempting though. smile

If there's nothing wrong with the car then you'd welcome an inspection. If I were selling my 996 I'd be delighted to go through the car with the inspector, providing the receipts to show when each part was changed, and adding the context as to why.

If, however, I knew that there was something that I was being shall we say somewhat coy about admitting too with regards to the condition of the car then I'd be unwilling to have someone who knows what they're doing look it over in detail.

Priced honestly and described correctly - the owner should be happy for an inspection. If not, well - draw your own conclusions.

Finally, with regards to the potential buyer trying to chip the price - if the report says that condition for year is excellent then that supports the stated price, rather than encouraging negotiation. "Your inspection said it needs nothing other than a minor service, I think my price is fair".

As the seller you'd also have the benefit of the inspection to show the next interested party (if the potential buyer agreed to share it with you of course, but I would think that that would be likely).

It depends on who does the inspection.

I was looking at Porsche inspections as they seem to offer a thorough service and would go to the seller.

Seller is deciding today if he wants an inspection...will update.

I can't imagine why a seller would refuse an inspection. Even it brings back a load of problems the seller can still refuse to negotiate.

Because it's a ballache sometimes? Because some "inspectors" are clueless? Because some "inspections" aren't worth the paper they're written on?

The last "inspection" someone paid for on a car I was selling was a farce.

I think so... clears no longer make the car look "new" as even the youngest 996 is pretty retro.

My 3.4C2 came with clears from the factory but I fitted ambers when I bought it 3 years ago because I think it looks better. I'm ahead of the curve smile
