I’m bored so I thought I’d post a photo of my Lapis blue 2001 3.4 C2 manual with M030 sports suspension, Top Gear S/S 200 cell cat system, 997 gear shift, new IMS and lilac air freshener. Eat your hearts out or something like that

Nice little run out in mine today with a few 997 and 991 driving friends. Air con seems to be a dribble of cool air and nothing more. Got home and either someone has cut an alien up in my garage, or the fluid with dye has leaked out. At least it should be easy to find where its come from now for a proper fix....

I changed my condensers and had the system regassed on Friday. It held the leak test for 30 minutes but was still pleased not to see some alien blood on the garage floor today. cool

It is said that Change is as good as a rest? I have been doing the older car thing for a few years and found it useful to run in parallel before changing. If you are lucky you have the space for many but I don’t, at least at the moment.

What made you join the owners club? Normally, I am a supporter of such things but not really considered this time or with the Boxster before.
Haha yes change could well be.

To be fair I am quite into the older car thing and currently also have an E30 M3 1987, E34 M5 1995, E39 M5 1999 and VW Rallye Golf 1989. I have a brand newish 7 Series as a daily beater. To be honest I don't really drive the older cars too much, but try my best to do so.

I also don't really have the space for them, but somehow I make it work (££). I am in central London and the new ULEZ restrictions are going to be fun too frown

I am a member of the BMW car club so thought will join PCGB too. Main driver for me was that I noticed I saved more in classic car insurance costs than the cost of the annual membership of the clubs. It's a was a no brainer in reality.

That’s a good fleet to have but not to park in central London!

Ulez is a nuisance for older car enthusiasts. I live in the Lez Zone and I am convinced that there will be a rule change sooner or later, bringing it out here. Getting my TVR through the emissions test was becoming harder as well. Not that many friendly tester left, at least around here.

I always joined the clubs (Club Triumph, Stag Owners and TVR car club) to help keep the cars and parts flowing but Porsche don’t need much help with that and it’s open to all of them. The European breakdown was helpful as well as lots of places don’t like insuring the older cars.

Re insurance, this is my second Porsche and have found Churchill Insurance very good. They don’t distinguish between business and pleasure usage, so I can use the car for car ( when we used to travel!) and don’t mind if the car is garaged or not, which the owners clubs used to hate. With two toys and one garage that was helpful!

I passed a non-S 997 the other day on the motorway and it looked fantastic. I think that's probably what I'll end up in once the congestion charge gets expanded out to me next year.

This might sound moronic coming from someone driving a 996 but the 997.1 just seems like far too much of a risk. I've seen so many with replacement engines from Porsche, which I assume just restarts the failure clock rather than fixes the issue (I'm guessing most are being replaced due to bore scoring, I could be completely wrong).

Ad reads well, Porsche classic head unit nice touch. Seems to be quite a few nice C2 coming on to the market at the moment, certainly more than last year when I was trying to get one. Lucky buyers!
Unfortunately eBay seem to have stopped showing prices for sold cars, can you remember what it was up for?

Just curious as it's very similar to my 996 so would be interesting to know current pricing

I bought a high mileage 997.1 three years ago that had it's engine replaced @100k miles by Porsche due to IMS failure.
Now it has an uprated AT (Austausch) engine. Uprated meaning having the bigger IMS bearing of later engines. This should give pom on this side.

Now the car is @200k miles, so 100k miles on the engine. The car has verifiably (and obviously) been driven on a regular basis and on long journeys by the previous owner who knew how to warm up an engine (at least he told me so and I have no doubt about it). The oil consumption is virtually non existent.

Between oil changes (every year/6k miles) I only need to top up once with about 0.5l. According to Porsche 1.0 - 1.5l per 650 miles (!!) is normal. So quite good, I'd say.

Thanks. Reassuring to know that I should get back what I paid for my 1998 C2 last year then although it has slightly higher miles.

Finally an early C2 Hartech Cab I can get behind. Silver with blue - which isn't amazing but equally it isn't awful.

Very similar to mine in many ways, shame they didn't match the roll-over hoops to the roof when they replaced it, but other than that it looks good.

it does look good. Maybe its the grey wheel centres. I'm warming to the idea of a chopped top. With boxsters you can add the later glass window roof. I don't know much about these. Can the same be done on these too?

Having second thoughts about selling my C2..... so...... I think I might do a little tinkering.
Firstly, the car has standard silencers. Has anyone tapped into the blank outlet to increase sound a bit.
Also my car has "comfort" seats which I don't especially like so would like to buy some standard seats in metropole if anybody has a nice set for sale?

Cheers

I've got a drivers side hardback sports seat that you could borrow to see if you like it? It's just sat in my garage at the moment, Metrepol leather with Arctic silver back.
