Fair comment. I've been struggling to get it booked in to the specialist as they've furloughed a load of staff nd have very few spots available.
Where are you based?
Leicestershire. As it happens this thread got me motivated and I booked it in to the local trusted Indy instead, because I don’t have to travel far to get there. They sorted it with a new jubilee this morning. biggrin

Anyone Essex based who can recommend a decent Indy?

Preferably Chelmsford area.

What’s it you need doing?

We’ve got a few people nearby (I’m in Chelmsford too, would be great to meet up at some stage!)

Depending on what it is I’d recommend Autostrasse or Porschacare (Stevenage so a bit of a drive)

Autostrasse sorted a few bits and bobs out for me (inspected a car, a few months later enabled cruise) and refused to accept any money from me!

I have used PIE performance before and my car has visited them a few times over the years. From my experience they are a great outfit. Based near Sudbury so on the Suffolk border.

It’s slightly complicated...

I lived in Surrey until mid 2019, and GTOne looked after it then.

I’m now semi-retired and living in Spain, but my wife is still working in the Uk, living in Essex.

No immediate work required, but need someone more local than GTOne to look after the car ongoing.

Wife has also said she’s spotted some rust appearing, so if anyone can recommend someone for bodywork it would be appreciated.

To that point, I thought this would have achieved slightly more:

It has a lot of the desirable options on it, reasonable miles and a sensible colour combo. Mention of some bodywork bubbling would be a concern but otherwise...
Agreed it does seem a touch rough, bubbling arches, de-laminating screen...

Nice spec by all means but the diff probably needs rebuilding by this point anyway, along with the dampers and bushes etc.
I had a bubbling rear arch on mine, which initially appeared to be a stone chip gone bad. The root turned out to be the lip of the arch where the inner and outer arches join and the seam was starting to separate. One tiny bubble was actually around 30cm of corroded inner and outer arch that needed a fair bit of work. The bodyshop did a cracking job remaking the arch and kept the cost down to a very reasonable £1200 but it was an unpleasant surprise.

yes These are known to rot behind the liners and it's more a matter of when not if any 996 will need the arches doing. Mine were £500+VAT each side but I do regard it as money well spent.

I've just messaged my friend Guy as he lives that way. He should know a decent bodyshop too as he's just had his Targa back after being restored

Thanks buddy!

Obviously you know I won't be looking to chuck massive money at it... it won't be getting a restoration laugh

You'll think he's the work experience kid when you go in there, but he really knows his stuff and looks after some lovely machinery, I saw a 993 Turbo RS in there last time. Very knowledgable guy and super helpful.
