Did you give them the part number in the link?

Two parts, not sure which is which, but cheap enough..

£0.59

Yep, part number, description, the guy even went off to ask someone. Felt like I was talking to a brick wall.
Give another place a call. My local (East London) will happily pop bits in a jiffy bag and send FOC. Very useful for the odd £4 O-ring. Might be worth a try.

Yep, I'd echo that. East London OPC is really helpful. I get most of my bits from them in normal times. They are also pretty good at giving a discount if you mention you're a member of an owners club too.

So glad you kept the 996 and you're selling the spyder. Have you changed the wing mirrors too?
Thanks for your kind words guys. ATM the wing mirrors are carbon fibre RUF mirrors. They are actually one of my favorite parts I fitted to the car. RUF don't make CF variants so I had these custom made some time back now wink

I had a pro photoshoot done of the cars at the weekend with detailed pictures of the cars below:

Thanks guys, selling the cars is something I'd prefer not to be doing if truth be told.
But whilst on this traumatic subject this little beauty needs to find a new home. Step forward ye with mahoosive plums hehe

Had some DIY time earlier, replaced my front control arms and tuning forks on my 996. There is a slight creak over rough road from the front but the knocking has gone completely. I am not sure if it’s the top mount (replacing these in a few weeks) or something I have done wrong? I put some weight on the suspension and followed the torque settings..any ideas?

Overall it feels a whole load better though and less crashy.

So you had a knock which is now gone but now there is a creak?

Knocking from the front is normally tuning forks if it's not the drop links are good so that makes sense. Creaking is normally coffin arm ball joints or ARB bushes. Is it possible you're hearing a noise that was there before but hidden by the knock? Sometimes you just need a few miles to bed the bits in.

I swapped my coffin arms all round which were super creaky but then I could hear knocks all round which turned out to be trailing arms! all swapped out and good as new pretty much (well for a 20 year old sports car!)

I've resisted doing my top mounts but might give them a go soon, interested to hear how you get on. My car on new M030 dampers is pretty crashy still and I understand this can help.

I'm running 36/40 from memory (although probably less now, not checked for a while!) so a bit lower than stock. Might have another fiddle about now that fun driving weather is back.

Thanks for the response...It was very minor, I have been for another quick drive and all appears to be good now. The car had a slight knock before and the drop links were all replaced a few weeks ago, so it’s pretty much all fresh on the front now.

The control arms have removed the play from the front end from what I can tell after a quick drive. I am going to be fitting Koni Special Active dampers and H&R springs, excited to replace the crashy M030 kit on there!

I take it you did tighten the rear of the coffin arm up when the car was on the ground and not jacked up?

With your wheels off the ground, grab the spring, and twist them, or the wheel if you can't get in there and see if the top mounts are creaking.

I jacked up the control arms whilst torquing to put them under load. I might put the car on some ramps I have just slacken off and then retorque to be certain...although I couldn’t get a torque wrench anywhere near the inner coffin arm mounts.

I see there’s a manual 2004 996 with a Hartech rebuilt 3.9 engine for sale in PH classifieds...
https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/11322980?c...
Whether it’s worth close to the asking price of £33k will be interesting to see...I suppose some could say it’s akin in a way to a CSR replica in part although actually has a fully rebuilt/improved engine.

That is very interesting......does the capacity increase add appeal or reduce it? I think it would be a good buy (compared to a CSR type customisation) but I already have an stock sized full Hartech rebuild.
I think most of us accept that when we spend the 12 odd k on ‘the full Bolton’, we do not add much at all to the value of the car - perhaps 4 k is realistic. Does a capacity increase change this? I somehow doubt it, but it only takes one buyer to prove me wrong.

Got to be worth £30k all day long.

That is the sort of car that now will always be in demand, and no matter what else needs doing to it you would never worry about that cost being lost.

Well, you could argue you now have the best NA 996 engine possible and many will happily pay a premium for that.

I think we are now getting past the point of having to have everything completely original to keep value.
We are now stating to see that we can 'improve' the original and it still become desirable and in many cases more desirable.

This video is worth a watch...

I think a Hartech 3.9 conversion with rebuild would certainly add far more than the rebuild alone.
