Thanks all. The geo was done by CG so has been done correctly - I can get the geo settings but it is as far as they could go to get steering feel.

Tyres are PS4s, fitted about 2 months ago running 34/40 psi. Based in Hertfordshire.

Other cars are an E36 with Z3 rack - more weight and feel than the 911. Also have a Caterham and Elise S1 - appreciate it won't be anywhere near as good as them but if it can be as good as the BMW that would be good.
Presumably CG did the before and after test drives with you to demonstrate the improvements and effectively 'sign off' the car?

The 996 has light, delicate, steering and I wonder if you're mistaking that with lack of feel. Hold the wheel with your fingertips rather than gripping the wheel - if the car is in good condition (which it should be if CG have set it up, they generally refuse to do anything with a half knackered car) then you should know plenty about the road surface below.

It's very different to a 'normal' car, though, with the engine out on the arse of the car plus the fact Porsche were terrified of the '911 folklore' so had dumbed them down a tad from previous incarnations.

It maybe that CG weren’t able to offer the full customer “before/after testing” given the Covid restrictions - that certainly was the case when they did the full geo/weighting set up on mine in March this year. They recommended 34/39 psi on my tyres (235/18 on the front & 265/18 back) - I’m running Cayman racing series wheels btw. I agree on the way you should hold the wheel as you shouldn’t feel that it’ll need such strength to pilot it on the move.

Fair point! So bored of the Covid nonsense, I can't believe it didn't occur to me.

The steering feel is one of the things that I really like about my 996 and how delicate you can be with your steering input. That said, I am yet to have the geo' checked but that will wait until I go through all the bushings etc. My car is fitted with Bilstein all round but I want to drop the ride height a little for the aesthetic. Any advice would be appreciated.

Better call into the garage with a few beers when I book it...

It's quite cool but $500 plus shipping is way out of my budget. How long till someone sells a vinyl sticker for a normal Momo?

yep it is pricey, though not as bad as the Momo Magnus Walker which is over priced in my opinion. The Paul Newman Momo wheel at £30K is pushing it too!

There's also the black anodised rennline one from d911 for c£100

Stuttgart Classica do similar ones to the car bone one for a similarly ridiculous price. The other option is to go to Simon at Built by Basil and have him make one for about £100. Makes a nice range out of old skateboard decks which this 80s kid thinks is pretty "rad".

I like the idea of a wooden wheel and matching knob.

Nice one!

Do you have a yellow 911 or is it to match with something else like a MOD-07?

It's a straightforward job to do, I marked out the L x W of the selector shaft onto a piece of masking tape and used that as a guide for the initial drilling on a pillar drill, after that it was just a case of using the dremel to turn the 3 holes into a slot.

I am really pleased with it.

I've lost track of what the nature of this work is, the upholstery is complete is it not?

I assume it's not the motor that's done? That would be very exciting!
