what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
Can I ask what oil level you guys run to? I would ordinarily run my engines to the max level on the dipstick (or a little over in the case of my track E30 M3) but I watched a recent video from Rennvision where they talked about running the oil 2 bars from top on the digital display which I think equated to a little over the midway point on the dip stick. I may need to check that though as my memory is awful. I change my oil and filter every 3K miles or 6 months so have about a month till the next change.
I also wondered if there's anything people do to maintain their injectors? I know injector problems can contribute to bore wash and subsequent scoring but are additives just snake oil?

Just fill the oil all the way, I think for track days slightly overfilling is recommended? For road driving how could it make much of a difference as long as it's not below the minimum?
You can get injectors cleaned but they're a pain to remove and not many people seem to bother. They're cheap in eBay though so maybe buy some then send them off to be cleaned and swap them over/get them swapped if you fancy it.

Here's a thought.
You know how the Alpine A110 is supposed to be amazing? Well I think is anyway - except for its drivetrain. 4 cylinders and dual clutch doesn't cut it for me.
Wouldn't it be great if there was a small sports car with 6 cylinders, hydraulic steering, wonderful controls, and a manual gearbox? Even better if it has every day useable has luggage space.
If only such a car existed....

Found this possible fix for the sun visors or vanity mirrors as they're called in USA. This vid is annoyingly rubbish but the principle seems sound. The guy who made these even commented too.
why not just buy thesehttps://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294067331101?hash=item4...
tons available, fully working, some individual ones are £40.

If mine were knackered and I wanted to fix them then I'd be trying 9apart as they wouldn't knowingly sell you pre=knackered ones unlike most of the breakers on eBay.*
I'm going to hazard a guess that at least one of the ones in the link above is broken hence why the guy is holding the flap up in one of the photos.

Looks like a budget friendly version of the CAE shifter.

Anyone else running a higher mileage 996 here?

I can’t comment on the Numeric shifter, but I have fitted a CAE shifter this year having seen a friend install one in his Mini track car - some may say it is excessive but if you enjoy driving, it’s a mighty fine upgrade If you’ve got to trim/modify the centre console to fit an upgraded shifter system I recommend getting a used console to modify (they do come up for sale occasionally at cheap £s....mine was £40 plus P&P including all the removable trim parts). If anyone is considering changing for a Numeric or CAE shifter, my experience is that they do highlight issues with the gear change cables.
My 996 C4 only has 89k miles on, but I have a friend with a 128k mile C4.
