what is an 'early' 3.4 996?

These things are never simple and with prices so close between a 996.1, 996.2 and even a 997.1 these days I just don't know why anyone would bother rather than just buying the model they want.
Re that red car above. Someone has put a lot of time, effort and money in to that front end with the cut and shut bumper. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but to me they've taken the worst elements of both generations. blobby .1 aero with the surrender headlights.
I think there are those of us that just didn't know, appreciate or care about the differences to be honest and simply go for a specific car because it simply appeals and/or meets our budget? Initially I was unsure about the aesthetics of the aero car, although I do like the 'taco' wing styling. I bought my own 996 because it was the only half decent example for the money. Now I've had it for a couple of months though and have made a couple of aesthetic tweaks, I really like how it looks and would change anything more, other than a possible swap to a 'ducktail' or 'taco' should one come up that isn't stupidly priced. Quite why the 'ducktail' is so bloody expensive though I don't know? Re that red car above. Someone has put a lot of time, effort and money in to that front end with the cut and shut bumper. If values do continue to rise though, it may well mean that the price differential of .1 and .2 cars, or aero to non aero, might increase? Maybe? Both have their fans though I'm sure.

I'd be painting mine silver anyway, so I'd be happy enough with fibreglass.
I'd do the same so would go FG unless I was planning to go nuts with weight saving. Exposed carbon is a bit too fast n furious for me.shalmaneser said:

Would be interested to know how much weight it saves compared to the standard spoiler assembly though.
It saves loads! The standard bootlid with the hydraulic spoiler weighs an absolute tonne, I was not expecting how heavy it was when I removed it. To get an idea, disconnect the hydraulic assistance ram and feel the weight, even when still hingedI never weighed the CF ducktail but I'd be surprised if it was more than a 3-4kg.

Given how much it hurts when a 6 year old slams the standard engine lid on your fingers, quite a lot.
Do you have photographic evidence of this method of testing said component's weight ? Or better still video footage (with audio obviously) ?

There is that lightweight - can't type it - exhaust which costs 4 grand and saves something like 20kg. So I think the accountants here would be dividing the cost by the kg saved to get to a £/kg saved figure. I'd start with battery and seats.
Akrapovic ? Kreisiegg ?These guys make an inconel system, it's waaay more than £4K though ...
