Does anyone actually believe the claims manufacturers make for things like exhausts and air filters (etc)?
I’ve yet to see any proven meaningful gains from bolt on stuff, including exhausts, manifolds, air filters, inlet manifolds etc on a NA 996.
Just go for what sounds best to you.
Not when it comes to the 996 but exhausts in particular can make a bike difference on some cars and make a massive difference on some motorbikes.I’ve yet to see any proven meaningful gains from bolt on stuff, including exhausts, manifolds, air filters, inlet manifolds etc on a NA 996.

With the 996 exhaust I read that the engineers made a pretty good job with the standard exhaust so there's no way you're getting any noticeable improvements from anything else. I would guess the fact it's so short helps.
Open cone air filters a never ending debate. I doubt it ever improves a 996 but it does make a nice noise and probably does no harm as long as you clean it, oil it and keep it from getting soaked.
It's all the same as the IPD plenum thing which again has been shown to give zero to - gains.
Just got a notification on this 996 listed, looks to be a great one for those seeking a 996.

He also had a thread on here. I've seen this car a couple of times. It made mine look like a turd by comparison.http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=144281

Had it less than a year... wonder if he's selling/sold to FGP to take advantage of the inflated prices, or because there's something wrong with it?
I reckon, I am sitting on a £5K profit but I would still not be selling as there is still nothing I would prefer for the price, The owner of that car sounds like a serial swapper so I would guess he is still trying others cars before understanding that "there is no substitute" jonny996 said:

Christ, I just noticed that my post had my logon details & it states been a member for 186 months, that 15 & half years since I bought my first 996, that puts it around March 2006 & the car was a December 1998 car, How I worried about buying a Porsche that was 7 year old.........what a waste of energy that was, nothing ever went wrong with it & it dropped about £3K in 2 years......

Funnily enough I've just been going through the FGP showroom and you're not far off. I was thinking circa £20k although I think they use the photos and come back with their own figure anyway. I've notified them of the aesthetic changes also, so it'll be interesting to see what they say. Currently I'm making the most of the good weather and the mileage allowance I have remaining.
Seems to just get more and more difficult to put a value on a 996. Cheapest manual coupe I found on auto trader was 15k. Most seemed to sit between 17-22k and there doesn't seem to be any price difference between a .1 and a .2.
The higher you go in the price bracket the more the lines blur. High 20s can be really good 996.1 or high miles and no doubt a bit ropey 997.1
